As a child, I remember visiting your family's market with my father, Bill O'Leary, who always spoke fondly of his friend, John. I am very sorry for your loss.

It was an honor to have spent time with this family growing up. As I settled in Florida, my goal, dream and success in life was to be the Schmidt house of my neighborhood. As many a family asked as they spent time in our home over the last 20 years, where we provided a spot where the kids could shoot hoops, swim, get a meal and stay mostly out of trouble, I got to to tell the story of John and Mary’s house in Elmira, NY. Marty, Danny, Mike, Dave and Steve who I knew and the rest of the family I heard so much about please remember your Dad as I did with much respect. And let us never tell of the doubleheader in Baltimore against his beloved Detroit Tigers in 1984. RIP
