John Simons Obituary

John M. Hilliard Corp. Retiree Age 61 of Horseheads, NY passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Elmira, NY on Tuesday, October 8, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Darla J. Simons of Horseheads; daughter, Karen (Mark) Tompkins of Elmira Heights; son, John JD (Debbie) Simons of Liverpool, NY; Michael (MaryAnn) Van De Bogart of Horseheads; daughter, Stephanie (Carmen) Stola of Largo, FL; grandson, Christopher Tompkins; granddaughter, Paige Tompkins; grandson, Carmen Stola; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Also survived by special golfing buddies; whenever you are on the greens, say a little prayer for John. He will be listening. John was predeceased by his father, Michael Simons and mother, Mary Cloke. He was a faithful employee of the Hilliard Corporation for 39 years, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. John was a US Army Veteran, and belonged to several clubs including the Elks, American Legion and White Eagles. He loved golfing and taught youth bowling at EBC for 10 years. John will be missed by many friends and family. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, on Friday, October 11, 2002 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2002 at the funeral home at 11:00 am with Father Patrick Connor officiating. Interment will be immediately following at Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY. Those wishing may make memorials to Make a Wish Foundation, Suite 900, MONY Tower II, 120 Madison Street, Syracuse, NY 13202. A Candle of Remembrance may be lit at www.olthof.com.
