Joseph Markward Obituary

MARKWARD,
Joseph R. "Bob"
Formerly of Pine Valley, NY, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 24, 2008, at Elderwood Tioga Nursing Facility after an extended illness. Bob was born in Towanda, PA in 1926 and graduated from St. Agnes Catholic School in 1945. He was a career salesman with Nestlé Corp. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Roberta in 1977. He is survived by his son, Christopher (Lynne) Markward of Maryland; and a special cat, "Freddie". Mr. Markward was extremely proud of his service to his country, having served in the occupation forces in Germany as a member of the US Army Third Division. He was a movie fan, especially John Wayne movies, and he knew all of the actors and actresses from the 1930's to the 1970's. Bob was a fan of "Big Band" music, especially Frankie Karl and Count Basie. He was also an avid Yankees' fan and proudly wore his Yankees' cap wherever he went. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church, Park Place, Elmira, NY, on Friday, June 27, 2008, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Thomas O'Brien. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Church. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following.
