I am so sorry to hear of Judy;s passing. I have not seen Judy for many years. Judy and her family lived next door to us. We lived on Davis Street and they lived on W. Clinton on the corner. My mom and I spent many a day at the Barnes household and we carpooled to EFA with the Salmons.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Barnes and Sanford families.

Stephanie, Carl, John and family,
My heart is filled with pain at your loss, but with joy for having known you MOM and Sister for so may years. I had a wonderful note from her after I visited you John when I was home to Elmira in December. You all (and especially my beloved Mary-Ruth and John) have been my extended family for over 30 years. May you feel comfort and
peace in knowing that you have been loved by Judy and by so many who loved her.

Alexandra, Austin and Xayn... Your grandma certainly loved teaching and loved her students as all of these wonderful tributes attest; however, nothing made her smile larger or her eyes brighter than the times she spoke about you and of the times spent with you. I was lucky enough to have known your grandma and know that she loved nothing more than the moments she spent with you.

I am so sorry for your lost. Judy Sanford touched the lives of many. She always had a warm, compassionate smile and kind words to say that were positive and uplifting. Judy was my elementary teacher and I never forgot her. Years later she was my sons principal whom he absolutely loved.
I will keep your family in my prayers. God Bless.

Judy was the principal when I became the first school resource officer in the school district. There are a select few people in life that have a genuine love for children and their well being. Judy was at the top of that list. I was away when I heard of her passing and saddened I could not be there to pay my respects. She was a top shelf person and without a doubt one of God's Angels.

I was saddened by the news of Judy's death. She was a great person and a wonderful teacher. I met Judy when she first started teaching in the Heights, and, we always remained good friends. She was one of a kind.
I remember one event in particular, when she came into the faculty room after school the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and asked everyone for a receipe for Home-made apple pie. Everyone had the easiest receipe, and they were all different. Judy started laughing and said she had the best recipe, but, she wasn't giving it out. It was called "the little doughboy". She touched the hearts of the teachers, students and all her friends. My special blessing was that I was "home" visiting when she had her retirement party, and surprised her. It was a very special day, and, I'll always remember her.
I'm sure she is having a special reunion in heaven with June Kane, Cathy Kawecki, Dee Batterson, Tom Kroouze, and all the other teachers who were waiting for her. Heaven will never be the same!

To Mrs. Sanford's family,

Mrs. Sanford was a great woman! All that knew her knew that. Every life she touched even just through meeting her once or if she only said "hi" to them and that is all they knew of her had the opportunity to know that she was a special and loving woman.

Mrs. Sanford made me feel special and important after an incident that I call The Bike Incident. I went to her when some students were harassing me on my bike one day after school. I had told her it was no big deal and that I don't want to get anyone in trouble. She told me that it WAS a big deal and I was NOT getting anyone in trouble that THEY got themselves into trouble by doing what they did. She told me I should not have had to deal with or go through that. She told me numerous times that it was a big deal and those students got themselves in trouble - it wasn't my fault, I shouldn't have had to go through that, and that I should be able to have my bike however I want and be how I want on my bike (like wearing my helmet even if I may look "dorky") and not have to worry about getting teased or picked on for it. I will never forget how she made me feel after that. After talking to her (and therefore officially reporting what happened), it made the next day at school easier. As I walked the halls that day people blamed me for those students getting the consequences they got and I just thought of what Mrs. Sanford had told me and then I confidently told them what she said - I said to them "nope I didn't do it they did it themselves.". To this day because of that incident and the support she gave me along with a lesson that she taught me still sticks with me and I think of it whenever someone says something about my bike or how I act on it.

I will never forget her! I loved her while she was alive and I always will.

Sincerely,
Boats

I will miss you so much Queen Sanford. I wrote you a poem and like my mom said, you will be missed by everyone, you were such a great influence on all of us.

Queen Sanford

When I was in need,
You gave my your deeds.
You gave me your loving hand.

When I felt sad
Thinking, I would never be glad
You always said, "Yes you can..."

When I would be picked on,
With no one to look upon
You were always right there beside me....

You said, "Just be yourself,
Ignore everyone else.
You should be who you want to be."

That was the lesson
You taught me the most
Your voice was always heard

I still hear it now
And I know how
Because of you, Queen Sanford...

I was shocked and saddened to read of Judy's death on today's online version of the Star-Gazette! What a loss! Judy was a terrific person, one whom I've admired and respected since our days as classmates @ Elmira Free Academy. She was a smart and beloved member of the Class of 1964.

Although our paths haven't crossed in recent years, I always hoped to reconnect with Judy after her retirement. Now I experience her passing as a sad loss, which I know that my husband, Paul, will share when he learns of it.

Our sincere condolences to Carl, Stephanie and the rest of Judy's family.

Mrs. Sanford,
You will be missed.
Me and my family will never forget you. You were the kind of person that no matter where you were, no matter what you were doing, you would stop and talk to us. I will never forget you, because you helped me get my first job, and you told me never to give up. Even when I started going to college, you told me not to give up on the tough subjects, just to hang in there, that I would make it through. You always believed in me and you kept faith when my family was going through some tough issues. Thanks, for everything you have done, and we will never forget you!

Carl, Steph and Family,
I was so sorry and sad when my dad called me to tell me about Judy. I just remember ALL the fun times we had at the house, sliding down the backstairs or playing hide and seek. She always let us take over without a complaint. Your mom was so special and such an important part of my childhood and adulthood. I will miss her immensely but I know she is now with your dad listening to him on the banjo and talking yankees. Love you guys!

Your Mom was one of the nicest persons we had ever meant. I'll never forget the 1st time I spoke with her, was her 1st time as principle at Cohen.
