We are both deeply saddened to hear of Karen's death. She taught with us at Eagle Hill Middle School in Manlius, NY, during the 1989-1990 school year. Karen taught Language Arts on our 3-person team that year. Our 1st period team planning was a lot of fun because of her. She brought so much enthusiasm, energy, and creativity to our meetings. Her quick wit and sense of humor were a welcome relief in a profession that can sometimes be a little stodgy. She'd frequently leave our meetings saying, "Well, I have to go clean my hovel". Of course, her room never was. She was the only person we know who covered her bulletin boards in Hallmark wrapping paper.
We can't imagine how terribly she will be missed by daughters, family, and close friends. Please accept our condolences.

Karen was a bright light in my life and the lives of so many others. She was an extraordinary friend, mother, and teacher. I always marveled at her independent, adventurous, and positive spirit. She could always make me laugh. Everything was fun, if she was there. I feel so fortunate and grateful that she was a part of my life. Some of my best memories are with her. My sincerest condolences to Anna, Olivia and the rest of her family and friends. May her loving spirit be with you always, and your wonderful memories bring you comfort. I will always miss her and never forget her.
