Louis Tarantelli Obituary

Louis "Louie" E. Tarantelli

Horseheads, NY - Husband, Father, Papa and Brother, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the age of 78. Louie was born on October 17, 1941, in Corning, NY, to the late Edward and Madeline (Carlineo) Tarantelli. He married Sheila Ann Danahy in 1965. After receiving his law degree from Union University, he settled with his wife in Horseheads, NY where Louie practiced law at Groff and O'Mara and the two raised four children. After 42 years as an Assistant District Attorney, Louie retired and became a Village Justice for the village of Horseheads, a position he cherished. Louie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sheila Danahy Tarantelli; four children, Sean Tarantelli (Debbie Scharff), Chris Tarantelli (Melanie Ernst Tarantelli), Mary "Mimi" Tarantelli (Joseph Merola) and Paula Benjamin (Mark Benjamin); his beloved grandchildren, Mary, Sophia, Louie, Gabriel, Andrea, Gianna, Joanna, Allena, Valentino, Charles and Robert; and sister, Bernadette (Gary) Jumper. Louie loved working with people, and over the years, his dynamic personality touched many lives. He was dedicated to his work, but it was his family which brought the most joy to his life: his wife, his children, and especially his grandchildren. Papa was the title of which he was most proud. His home was a haven to many over the years. All were welcome! Now, the family welcomes relatives and friends to Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY, on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at his church, St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 W. Broad St., Horseheads, NY, on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at 11 AM with Rev. Christopher Linsler. Those wishing to remember please consider memorial contributions to St. Mary Our Mother Church or Holy Family, 421 Fulton St., Elmira, NY 14904. Condolences and words of comfort may be expressed at Louie's Book of Memories at www.sullivansfuneralhome.com

To the Tarantelli family, so sorry for your loss. Louie was a big, fun personality in the neighborhood while we were growing up. Many fond memories of that era, many times his patience was tested yet he let the kids be kids...great man, too soon gone. Peace be with you all -
