Maria Artemow Obituary

ARTEMOW, Maria
Age 85, born on January 30, 1924 in the Ukraine, the district of Zhitomer, in the village of Kurnoe. On August 10, 2009, she passed away very peacefully at home after many years of quiet suffering. Maria lived full and an extraordinary life. She was well-loved and cherished by those who knew her. She was above all a quiet and smiling human being. "To know her was to love her", and we cherished the moments we spent in the company of her wisdom. Her natural humility kept her from offering advice unless she was asked. She willingly shared all she had, and all she knew with anyone who had a need. Maria knew the Lord and lived as He would have wanted her to. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to be in her presence. Maria was a 55-year resident of Elmira Heights. She was predeceased by her son, Nicholas in 1984; her daughter, Marianne Pace in 2001; and her husband of 62 years, Iwan Artemow in 2008. Maria is survived by her daughter, Olga of Elmira Heights; beloved grandchildren, Eric Artemow of San Antonio, TX, and Allison Pace of Swansboro, NC. The family would also like to thank their special friend, Kathy Storch, for her love, warmth and care of Maria during the last year. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church on 140 Horseheads Blvd., Elmira Heights. Panihida will begin at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held there on Thursday, August 13, 2009, at 12 p.m. with Father Jason Kappanadze as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will provide flowers. If desired, memorial donations may be sent to the Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church. James D. Barrett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. I have fond memories of her when I lived on Lynwood Ave. I have told the story many times about how she pierced my ears for me! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Olga,

So sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I have fond memories of staying at your house when I was young - playing cards on the porch, typing on a typewriter, and going on peanut butter sandwich picnics just a couple of blocks from the house. Simpler times.....

The neighborhood is not the same anymore. Maria will be missed dearly by all the children that knew her. Maria was a wonderful lady and I will miss her so much. She told me one day that she loved to hear me and the children out on the porch laughing and having fun and it made her happy to hear it so now when my children and I are outside laughing and having fun I know I will be making Maria happy to look down on us and smiling. Olga, I am so sorry about your mom passing and it hurts so bad to me. I will miss her alot.
