Maurice Wiles Obituary
Maurice Age 82, of Pleasant Drive, Nelson, PA, passed peacefully November 8, 2005, at Founders Pavilion, Corning, NY, surrounded by his immediate family and a close friend. He was born March 9, 1923 in Nelson, PA., the son of Albert (Allie) Wiles and Bessie Simons Wiles. Maurice was well known, and a lifelong resident of Nelson, PA. He also resided in Zephryhills, FL, where he had many friends. He retired after 41 years as a millwright at Corning Glass Works. He was also a retiree of the US Air Force Reserves and earned the rank of Mst. Sgt. Maurice was a very patriotic citizen and served his country during WW II as an armorer specialist in the 15th Air Force, 455th Bomb Group/Vulgar Vultures Squad. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge and Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster for missions flown in Austria and Germany. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post #524 American Legion, Big Flats, Loyal Order of Moose, Elkland Lodge, and the National Warplane Museum, Big Flats. He is an honoree of the WW II Museum in Washington, DC. Maurice was preceded in death by his first wife, Majorie Briggs Wiles. He is survived by his wife, Doris Canfield-Wiles, Big Flats, NY and Zephyrhills, FL; children, Janet Marie (Bob) Rice, Asheboro, NC, Vicky Ann Wiles, Nelson, PA, Steven Maurice Wiles, Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Sr. Mst. Sgt. Bret M. (Karana) Rice, Ramstein AFB, Germany, Jamie L. Martin, Nelson, PA, Craig R. (Teresa) Rice, Port Byron, NY, Monica K. (Arthur) Rice-Rodgers, Randleman, NC, Tech Sgt. Jill A. Pratt, Aviano AFB, Italy, Joshua A. McLean, Nelson, PA, Silas S. Wiles, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX; five great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Lynda Canfield, Phoenix, AZ, Vicky (Bill) Olson, Myrtle Beach, SC, Jeri Canfield, San Diego, CA; three step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. Maurice loved life, his family and friends, traveling, baseball, racing and dancing to country-western music. His presence will be greatly missed. Friends are invited to call at the Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Elkland, PA, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Kenneth Schoonover, officiating. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, PA.
