Olga I. Krazinski

Elmira - On Thursday evening, on the fifth of July, 2018, Olga I. Krazinski, in the 99th year of her life serving the Lord, went peacefully home. Her prayers were answered as she was lovingly received into the arms of Jesus and His Blessed Mother and her parents.

Olga was born in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania on October 9, 1919, a daughter of William and Antoinette Krazinski. She was the youngest and last surviving of 14 children. Surviving her are several nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends and caregivers.

Olga graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School and Arnot Ogden School of Nursing. She also earned an undergraduate degree from Elmira College, of which she was an ardent supporter, and a Master's Degree from Columbia University in New York City.

Her vocation was nursing. Through her many years as a respected teacher and an effective administrator, Olga influenced generations of nursing students. As a mentor, she not only gave her best but demanded the best from those whose lives and careers she touched. In addition to her valued profession, she also served her country for 23 years in the Army Nurse Reserves, earning the rank of Colonel.

But Olga's life of service was not defined solely by her profession. She was a devout and committed Catholic who loved and faithfully served her parish of Blessed Sacrament by generously donating her time, talent and treasure. Upon her retirement, Olga compiled a remarkable record of giving as an active volunteer in her church and her work with numerous community organizations. Just a few examples:

•She belonged to the Elmira Business Professional Women and was a past-president.

•She was a member and past-president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, promoting professional growth of women education.

•She was a current member and past president of the Ladies of Charity.

•She volunteered for the Artic League.

•She served on the Advisory Board for the Samaritan Center.

•She was an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph

•She taught the AARP Driver Safety Program for many years, right up to this year.

Olga Krazinski lived her energetic life of caring, giving and service to her final days. She was an avid reader, enjoyed good food and company, delighted in international travel and welcomed new experiences. She is a worthy recipient of the biblical blessing, "Well done, good and faithful servant ... now enter into the joy of your master." — Matthew 25:23.

At her request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Richard Farrell presiding, will be held for Olga at St. Patrick's Church on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10:30. Military honors will be held outside of church after the Funeral Mass. Interment with committal prayers will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Elmira Heights. Arrangements by McInerny Funeral Home.

I knew Olga because she and her sister Anna and brother-in-law Peter White moved across the road from us when I was a teenager. They were wonderful neighbors and friends. When my dad was ill Olga was there to help and comfort. She was a great example of her faith and will always hold a special place in the hearts of those she touched.

To Olga's Family and Friends
Everyone who had the good fortune to meet Olga, whether it was as an instructor for the safe driving course or at the voting booth or at the library, loved her. She was always so much fun, so lively, so interesting, so special. She brought smiles wherever she went.
She told me that she was writing her autobiography and I hoped she would give it to the Steele Memorial Library. I know the genealogy and local history department would love to have the story of her very interesting life. If someone in the family has it in any form, please feel free to contact me to see it is put in the library.

Olga was a Chemung Volunteer Action Corps (former RSVP) volunteer for nearly 28 years! Donating a whopping 7,216 hours of her time to serving others in our community. A true gem of a lady, we will certainly miss her. We appreciate folks like Olga. Please know that you are in our thoughts at this difficult time.

Although she was 98 years of age, my first thought was still that Olga has left us too soon. We would see Olga at so many fundraisers around town as she was always such a "giver" and so thoughtful of others. Our world was a better place with Olga in it and I'm sorry to read she is no longer with us. Condolences to her family and friends.
