Ronald L. Thompson

Elmira - Age 81, of Elmira, NY passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019. Ron was born in Corning, NY on August 4, 1938 to the late Dorothy and Daniel Thompson. Ron is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jo Ann; daughters, Kelly Baker, Walnut Creek, CA, Colleen (Howard) Weedon, Centreville, VA, Kimberly (Scott) Proudfoot, Elmira; son, Ronald (Stephanie) Thompson, Horseheads; grandchildren, Layne & Morgan Weedon, Luke, Logan & Olivia Proudfoot, Andrew & Brooke Thompson; sister, Gloria Clark, Corning, NY; brother, John (Sally) Thompson, Painted Post; sisters-in-law Rose (Michael) Bennett, Elmira & Christine (Thomas) Harrigan, Apollo Beach, FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins; predeceased by his brothers, Daniel Jr., Robert, Richard & Paul; sisters, Winifred, Norma & Betty. Ron worked for Corning, Inc. for 47 years, a member of the Italian American Veterans Club and a Veteran US Marines. Ron also was a lifetime member of St. Anthony's Parish and a communicant of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Kalec Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 18th from 4 to 7 p.m. A prayer service there Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter & Paul's Church at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in Sts. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Donations in his memory to St. Jude's (envelopes available at the funeral home and his mass). Ron's family would like to thank: Dr. Mohamed Atwaibi, Dr. Vincent Ladelia, Dr. Renee Abderhalden, Dr. Michael Horgan and Judy Blodgett (his dialysis nurse) for their loving care. The officers and members of the IAV club will meet at the Kalec Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 18th at 7 p.m. to conduct a prayer service for our departed member Ronald L. Thompson. I am just reading this and it makes Lonie and I sad. We used to love running into your mom and dad when we visited Elmira after church. He was such a kind man!! Our thoughts and prayers go out to you, may he Rest in Peace and may the Golden Gates of Heaven open wide for him, until we all meet again!!

Jo Ann, family and friends, I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of a good friend, Ron. Jo Ann, you and Ron had a great life! When you lived on Thurston St, I visited often. Ron was well respected as a tradesman in Corning. Upon retiring, you bought a lovely house in Quail Run and were extremely proud of it. I;m sure Ron will be missed by all who knew him. Mrs. Thompson, Kelly, Colleen, Kim, Ronnie and family- I was so sorry to hear your sad news. Your family was so much a part of my youth, and I have so many memories of growing up next door to you on Thurston Street. Your father taught me how to play Bocce, and he also taught me a lot of lessons about life! He was a wonderful man! Keep your memories of him in your heart and he will always be with you. I have so many fond wonderful memories of this man.... and the entire family. They did so much for me growing up and for my parents after I left the area.
