Tanner, Ruby Butcher

Age 97 passed away October 30, 2016 at Mission Hills Assisted Living in Rancho Mirage, CA.

Ruby was a long time resident of Montour Falls, New York and worked for Shepard Niles for over 30 years. She was born on May 23, 1919 in Jobs Corners, Pa. at a place called Pumpkin Hill. Ruby was one of 12 children. She graduated with honors from Millerton High School in Pennsylvania in 1936. Ruby married Bill Tanner of Montour Falls in 1941 and had two children, Pat Specchio of Thousand Palms, California and Andrew Tanner of Orange City, Florida. After retiring from Shepard Niles, Ruby lived several years in Deland Florida with her devoted friend Howard Hendricks and spent a great deal of time with her brothers and sisters. She moved to California to live with her daughter and son-in-law in 1999.

Ruby was predeceased in death by her parents Harry Butcher and Ruby Smith Butcher; husband Bill Tanner; brothers Harry Butcher, Harold, Butcher, Bob Butcher, Raymond Butcher and Bill Butcher; sisters Lillian Chamberlain, Blanche Gregory, Mary Rusin, Carol Morrison, and Hazel Toothacker. Also preceeding Ruby in death are her brother-in-laws Richard Esaias, Pete Chamberlain, Sam Gregory, Mike Rusin, George Morrison, Jack Toothacker, Guy Houser, Frank Merrill, Tellis Weaver and Chuck Beecher. Also predeceased are Ruby's sister-in-laws, Margaret Butcher, Margareta Butcher, Doris Butcher, Agnes Butcher, Irene Butcher, Betty Merrill, Elizabeth Weaver, Dorothy Beecher and Jane Coil; Also, friend, Howard Hendricks.

Surviving Ruby is her sister Phyllis Houser of State College, Pa., Ruby's daughter Pat Specchio, her son Andrew Tanner, son-in-law Ted J. Specchio and daughter-in-law Bonnie Schaffhauser Tanner. Grandchildren, Jeff Specchio, Wendy (Rick) Rogina, Lisa (Dean) Myers, Tammy (Jeff) Everett and Becky Aldrich. Ruby was also very proud to have several great and great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Henry Coil of Bath, New York is Ruby's only surviving brother-in-law.

Ruby's favorite pastime was playing cards and going to the casino. She was a champion euchre player at the Watkins Glen Elks for years and would not hesitate to inform her fellow card players that she had the trophies to prove it. It's your deal Ruby!!!

Ruby will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
