Theodore Specchio Obituary
Burdett: Theodore 'Ted' F. Specchio, age 81, of Burdett, NY passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, October 12, 2014. Ted was born on October 4, 1933 in Watkins Glen, NY the son of the late, Lawrence and Mary (Chiacchierini) Specchio. Ted served in the US Army from 1955-57. He retired as a civil engineer with the NYS DOT in Hornell, NY and later worked for Hunt Engineers. He was a member of the Watkins Glen Fire Dept. since 1955, serving as a past Chief and Fire Commissioner. He also served as Deputy Fire Coordinator for Schuyler County as "Car 5". Ted was a proud member of the BPOE, Watkins Glen Lodge #1546, where he served many offices, including as a Past Exalted Ruler, VP of the NYS PEF union. Ted was also a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen and volunteer for the Office of the Aging and American Red Cross. Ted loved spending time with his family, traveling to Arizona, years in fire service and the ELKS, especially his many casino bus trips. Ted is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara (Lee) Specchio; his children, Larry Specchio (Laura) of Chenango Forks, Laurie DeNardo (Robin) Watkins Glen, and Karen Walther of Horseheads; granddaughters, "Dr. Pat" DeNardo and Alyssa; grandson, Dylan Walther (Tianna); great-grandson Aiden; brother, Lewis Specchio; brothers in law, Philip Smith; Robert (Laura) Lee; sisters in law, Patricia Angelo, and Shirley Ormsbee; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by his sisters, Carol Symes and Julia Smith and son-in-law, Jeffrey Walther. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 16 at Haughey-Wood Funeral Home, 119 Fifth Street, Watkins Glen 4-6 p.m. with Elks Service at 6:15 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Of the Lake Church, 905 Decatur Street, Watkins Glen at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 17th with interment services immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ted's memory to the ARC of Schuyler County, 203-205 12th St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891 or to the Watkins Glen Elks #1546 Banquet Fund, PO Box 346, Watkins Glen, NY 14891.

I never saw your photo gallery until now, 2-15-16. What great memories of a beautiful family. I was there for sure but its all blurry I was so very upset but glad I was with Barb when you passed.

Ted you would have been so proud of the love and respect showed to you and your family during your calling hours and funeral. What an amazing send off, your Grandchildren showed their love for you and your children and everyone who you touched in their life, especially me. I have a huge hole in my heart right now, you would be proud of Barb, she was strong when she had to be and please rest in peace knowing we will all help to take care of her. Love you so much, and please use some influence up there the next time you see me in a Casino!

My thoughts and prayers to the entire Specchio family. It's been several years since I have seen Ted, I always admired him for being such a straight-shooter. He was a key person in getting the Glen Valley Apartments built. He will be missed by so many people.

Ted, I am so happy Jen and I were able to spend those last hours with you and Barb. It is such a shock to lose you so sudden but I have tons of great memories to keep me going until God calls me to join you and the rest of the family and especially my beautiful wife Eloise who miss every day of my life.
L never got to tell you I loved you but you know grown men find that a hard thing to do I will really miss our frequent phone calls we were used to. Will try my best to help Barb and the kids. your brother

What can I say you were not my brother in-law you where my brother always there in a time of need family first, dedicated fireman for over 50 years, serving this community in so many ways, elkdom was your passion, your advice to all of us was always the right thing to do. Your love for my sister for 56 years never stopped and so many sorrows but so many good times and you were always there to support, love and guide. Family and anyone else was always welcomed on North Glen Ave and 414. Larry Laurie and Karen my god what great people they have become with you and Barb's guidance and love. This is going to be so difficult not seeing you, but my memories will never fade. There are no words to express our families loss, Ted was the rock holding up our foundation, we are so shocked and can't imagine our life without him. I loved him so much and pray for Barb and the kids for strength to get through the next few days. There isn't enough space to write about him, I am grateful he went peacefully but hate it for those he left behind. Rest in peace my wonderful Brother in law!

We were so blessed to call such a caring, and giving man as Ted surely was, "friend." He shared his time, knowledge, and talents with many, and we especially enjoyed his visits to us on many occasions. Ted has fallen asleep in the Lord, and now rejoices that he is once more in the company of all his family who have gone before him, and best of all, with the Lord, Himself. Requiescat in pace, Ted.
