Smith, William M. (Billy)

Alpine: William M. (Billy) Smith, Jr., 46, of Alpine, formerly of Ithaca, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at Arnot Ogden Hospital, Elmira following a long illness. Billy was born in Ithaca. He was employed at Calvary Cemetery and Immaculate Conception School for 12 years. Later he was employed by TDS in Elmira where he worked until becoming ill three years ago. His favorite pastimes included making model cars, gardening, snowmobiling and sitting around a good campfire. Billy was an animal lover and especially loved his dog and companion, "Sheba". He enjoyed spending time with his extended family's children and grandchildren. Billy is survived by his mother, Geraldine Smith of Groton; fiancee, Joyce Walker of Alpine and her family, Priscilla Barron, Crystal Walker, Sally Walker, Tyler Walker, and Brittany Mosier; brother, Craig (Colleen) Smith of King Ferry; nieces and nephews, Cassandra LaRow, Gerald Smith II, Caitlyn Smith, Jon Rafferty, and Alexander Smith; aunt, Bonnie (Roy) Lewis and their daughter, Michelle Alex; uncle, Phil (Sally) Quick; aunt, Marlene Cutler; and numerous additional aunts, uncles and cousins. Billy was predeceased by his grandparents, Gerald and Veda Quick; and cousin, Jeffrey Lewis. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, at the Wagner Funeral Home, located at the Family Service Center Building, 110 S. Geneva St., Ithaca. A reception following the service will be held at the Ithaca Eagles Club. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Falck Cancer Center at Arnot Ogden Hospital, Elmira or to your local SPCA.
