Barbara Blizzard Obituary
Born on Sept. 4, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John F. Williams Sr. and Muriel C. Wooters Williams. Barbara started her 42-year career with C&P Telephone beginning as a switchboard operator. She continued in various roles with the company until her retirement. Most recently, she carried the role of "Professional Grammy," caring for and supporting her eight beloved grandchildren.
Barbara was a dedicated member of Fairview Church of the Brethren, where she displayed handcrafted flower arrangements weekly. Barbara was well known for utilizing wildflowers and greenery from her unsuspecting neighbors to create these beautiful arrangements.
In her lifetime, Barbara was known for her love of yard sales, photography, braided wool rugs, jewelry tree art, homemade strawberry jam, passion for gardening and needlepoint Christmas ornaments featuring yearly pictures of her grandchildren.
Her loving spirit is carried on by husband Howard, whom she married in 1971, and her children, Lesley Buchanan (John), Doreen Riggs and Amy Stafford (Jeremy). Also, grandchildren; Jonathan, Trent, Bailey, Grace, Gabriel, Reagan, Parker and Campbell, as well as her sister Darlene Hutchison, and many nieces, nephews and family too numerous to list but not forgotten.
Barbara is predeceased by two siblings, John F. Williams Jr. and Karen Williams.
Among special friends, she leaves behind Nancy Obitz of Oxford, Md. Barbara will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Fairview Church of the Brethren in Cordova, where family and friends may call from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations in Barbara's memory can be made to the Fairview Church of the Brethren Building Fund, 11243 Chapel Road, Cordova, Maryland 21625.

Barbara was one of the nicest people I know. We met at the phone company a long time ago. Never, did I call on her, that I didn't receive the help I needed. She was always poised, professional and friendly. Which is a difficult combination, but one she pulled off with grace. Barb was a wonderful person and I will miss her.
