Charles Althoff Obituary
Born on Sept. 10, 1932 in Grasonville, MD, the son of the late Charles Raymond and Margaret Louise Hess Althoff, he grew up in the Grasonville/Queenstown area. Gene graduated from Stevensville High School; as well as Chesapeake College with an Associate's Degree. He is a retired Corporal from the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. Gene is most well-known as the Manager of Farm Operations at Pintail Point Farm in Queenstown. After retiring from farming, Gene worked construction for C.J. Miller, LLC. He was also a volunteer and lifetime member of the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Dept., and did volunteer work for the Maryland State Police, Centreville Barrack.
Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, farming and fishing.
Charles is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy (O'Donnell) Althoff of Denton; eight children: Margaret Althoff of Ohio; Martha Baker (Ted) of Queenstown; Carol Denny (Harry) of Wye Mills; Mary Beck (Ronnie) of Kansas; Chris Althoff (Becky) of Cordova; Christina Nagowski (Rick) of Delaware; Melissa Lenzi (Anthony) of Chestertown; and Kathy Bankard (Paul) of Westminster; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters: Marie Vest; Rita Smith; Patricia Althoff; and Jane Jarrell.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19, from 6-8 p.m. at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD, where a service will be held on Friday, January 20 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compass Regional Hospice, 255 Comet Dr., Centreville, MD 21617 or the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Dept., 7110 Main St., Queenstown, MD 21658.
