Cooper O'Brey Obituary

Cooper Elliott O'Brey died on January 5, 2026. He was an incredible young man, and a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and neighbor to the many members of his family and community he left behind.

Cooper was a graduate of Queen Anne's County High School, where he walked the stage in May 2024 with a 4.3 GPA and many college credits already completed. He went on to attend Towson University, where he excelled in his computer technology major. During his high school years, he worked at Camp Wright and Acme, and completed a semester-long internship at Noble. A true technology whiz, Cooper was always eager to dive into solving a problem, fixing code, or finding creative solutions. If something couldn't be fixed, he could usually find a workaround. He was also an avid reader. The only behavior call his family ever received from school was when teachers couldn't convince him to put his book away and pay attention in class. Cooper loved skiing and the energy of big cities. Over the holidays, he confidently navigated his way through Manhattan and was looking forward to an upcoming ski trip. He loved Five Guys burgers, science fiction, complicated Lego builds, taking walks with his dad, his pets, and overly salted popcorn.

Cooper was kind, reliable, and cared about the happiness of those around him. He was an incredible big brother who spent countless hours chasing his siblings around the yard with his drone, and playing video games and more rounds of Exploding Kittens than anyone could count. He loved to bake and shared that passion with his sister, enjoying their time together in the kitchen, perfecting chocolate chip cookies. He was a best friend to his father and a constant source of pride and love to his mother and stepfather. His future was blindingly bright. We are devastated that he has left us.

Cooper is survived by his mother, Renee Still Bagshaw (and stepfather Steven), and father, Stephen O'Brey; his brother and sister, Charlie Bagshaw and Cecelia Bagshaw; grandparents Tom and Cheryl Chiccone; step-grandparents David and Wylma Bagshaw; uncle Sky Barkley (and aunt Noelle); aunt Vanessa O'Brey; aunt Lindsey Love (and uncle Jon); aunt Hannah Chiccone; aunt Sharon Hodges (and uncle Jason); and cousins Hawk, River, Amelia, Shiloh, Holland, Ethan, and Seth - along with many other extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 17th from 5pm to 7pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home 106 Shamrock Rd. Chester, MD. A time of prayers will begin at 7pm.
