Katherine Sheehan Obituary

KATHERINE LOUISE SHEEHAN (1949-2024)

A devoted wife and mother who loved life and brought much laughter and joy to all who knew her. Katherine (Kathy) Louise Sheehan, 75, of Little River, South Carolina, died peacefully in her sleep on July 22, 2024.

She was born in Baltimore in 1949 to John and Louise Reuling who moved to a home in White Stone, Virginia. Kathy's childhood included summers growing up there fishing, crabbing, and enjoying life on the water.

Kathy spent her early childhood in Catonsville, Maryland, eventually moving to Timonium Maryland, where she attended Maryvale Preparatory School before attending Dulaney High School. It was there she met the love of her life, Bernard (Bernie) Vincent Sheehan. They were High School sweethearts and married on November 23, 1966. Kathy and Bernie had two daughters, Kimberly (Kim) Sheehan and Theresa (Tracy) Sheehan Ross.

Though she loved making Christmas decorations, creating and contributing recipes to start and develop her local neighborhood cookbook, or mastering her skills on the golf course, Kathy's favorite role was that as a grandparent. She treasured her time with her grandkids and loved being their "Mom-Mom." Never failing to bake her beloved pound cake for visits or initiating a game night for all.

Kathy considered her friends like family. It was during her and Bernie's cruising adventures that led them to develop such friends they called "Cruise Buds." The "Cruise Buds" would travel together over the span of 15 years. Kathy loved travelling and fell in love with Italy. She and Bernie would later visit there several times with friends.

When Bernie began his 38-year career with Stanley Black & Decker, the company transferred him and the family to Danville, Virginia and Westminster, Maryland and later to Easton where the family would settle for the next 18 years. It was here that both children attended and graduated from Easton High School. Kathy worked several years at Shearer the Jeweler and became one of their in-house engravers. She and Bernie would later purchase a boutique kitchen shop in downtown Easton with partnered friends. A job that was more of a hobby with her love of kitchen gadgets and cookware. Bernie had another job relocation that led he and Kathy to Fayetteville, North Carolina where they would live for the next 21-years.

When Bernie retired in 2018, He and Kathy moved to Little River, South Carolina, a small town north of Mrytle Beach where they bought a lovely home with a golf course view.

Everyone who knew Kathy knew how much she enjoyed having a good time. Whether it was on the golf course using some 'colorful language,' getting together with her "Cruise Buds" for various adventures, developing her Facebook skills, and enjoying her many friends she kept in touch with or spending time with her family. Kathy would engage everyone with her spirit for life and her contagious laughter. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents John and Louise Reuling and sister Susan Suyama. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bernie and daughters Kim and Tracy, grandchildren Seth, Lily and Emma and sister Jane Clickner.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held in Easton, Maryland on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Magnolia Manor 768 Port Street, Easton, Maryland 21601. The reception will be casual. There will also be a scheduled Celebration of Life reception in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Scrub Oaks Contemporary Pub 5780 Ramsey St STE 108, Fayetteville, North Carolina 28311. The reception will be casual.

Kathy will be laid to rest with her predeceased family in the family plot located in the town of White Stone, Virginia.
