Nancy Bennett Obituary
Nancy Lee Bennett passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27th, at her home in Church Hill with her family by her side. Nancy was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on December 9, 1936, to the late Thomas E. Davis, Sr., and Anne Louise Healey Davis. She spent the majority of her childhood in Justus, Pennsylvania, but later moved to Westbury, New York, where she graduated from Westbury High School in 1955. Nancy moved with her family to Indio, California, after graduation. It was in Indio that Nancy also met her future husband, James Bennett, who was a co-pilot for Nancy's father. Nancy and Jim were married in June 1957 and were married for 65 years. For the first few years of their marriage, they made their home between Indio and New York, following Jim's work travel. Nancy and Jim then moved to Findlay, Ohio, where they started their family. After moving to Maryland, Nancy completed her degree in education, where she taught kindergarten and Pre-K for several years. Among her many talents were sewing, painting, doll making, and playing the piano. However, she is best known for her love of cooking and baking, as her favorite place to be was in the kitchen. No one ever left a Sunday dinner hungry. Cheesecake and chocolate chip cookies were her specialties. Nancy's true pride and joy was her family. She loved fiercely with all her heart and enjoyed hosting and feeding them all. Her loving and welcoming spirit earned her the nickname "Mom" as she was affectionately referred to by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her husband and parents, Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Thomas E. Davis, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Beth Coxon (Bill), and Louisa Welch, and her two sons, Jim Bennett, Jr. (Ana Ligia), and Edward Bennett (Kathy). She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Billy, Heidi, Jake, Katie, Jimmy, Kristen, Courtney, Madison, Chandler, and Grace, 4 step-grandchildren, as well as 13 great-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Nancy's wonderful caregivers, April Dadds and Christi Lynch, for all the special care and support they provided during the past year. We will be forever grateful. We would also like to thank the nurses, and other staff from Compass Hospice for their support and guidance along the way. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compass Hospice in Centreville, MD. Visitation and Service will take place on Wednesday, November 5th at 10 am, Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam, 408 S. Liberty St. Centreville, MD 21658.
