Richard lee Pursley

1945 - 2024

Richard Lee Pursley of Greensboro, MD passed away March 20, 2024 at his home, aged 79. Born February 7, 1945, he was the son of Virgil and Irene Pursley. Richard was a 1963 graduate of North Caroline High School and received degrees from Goldie-Beacom College and East Carolina University. He would return to North Caroline to teach accounting and computers until his retirement in 1993.

On August 11, 1973 he married the love of his life, Julia Frances Collins; the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, a love of baseball and crabs, his service to the Greensboro Lions Club, and his dedication to family and friends. He enjoyed keeping up with North Caroline classmates and former students and serving on the Class of 1963 reunion committees. A lifelong Greensboro resident who loved the town he called home, he'd answer to Dicky, Dad, Pop Pop, Coach, or ND3G - his ham radio callsign.

He is survived by his wife Julia; daughter Jessica Ann Farrell (Ryan); sons Michael Lee (Jessica) and Martin Collins (Carly) Pursley; and grandsons Indigo Farrell, Thomas Pursley, James Pursley, and Henry Pursley. He is predeceased by his parents and a beloved aunt, Jean Dean.

Visitation will be held at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 West Sunset Ave, Greensboro, Md., on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 11 am to 12 pm, followed by the service at 12 pm. The burial will take place at Greensboro Cemetery, 309 S. Main St., Greensboro, Md.
