Robert Orme

1946 - 2024

Robert Windsor Orme, 78, of Preston, Maryland and Gouldsboro, Maine, passed away on July 4, 2024, after a battle with cancer.

Robert "Bobby" (and to many, "Moose") was born on June 25, 1946, to the late Robert Cherry Orme and Helen Adams Orme in Bethesda, MD. After Bobby graduated in 1965 from Saint Mary's High School in Annapolis, MD, he went on to study business administration at Baltimore Junior College and the University of Baltimore.

Bobby was the founder and president of Blue Water Boat Repair and president of Blue Water Marina in Edgewater, MD. Later he went on to be the port engineer at MAR Incorporated and the Relief Captain of the Peter W. Anderson Research Vessel with the EPA. He served 22 years in the 949th Marine Transportation Company, US Army Reserves in Curtis Bay, Baltimore, as a Chief Warrant Officer and tugboat Captain.

Bobby met Cecelia "Bitsy" Gardiner in 1958 in Davidsonville, MD, started dating in 1962 and she finally said yes and the two were married in 1971 in West River, MD. Bobby and Bitsy had two children, Brian and Helen.

Bobby finally retired in 2019 and spent his time devoted to a number of activities, including wood-working, eating out on Fridays with the ROMEOs in Winter Harbor, ME and collecting rocks along the coast of Maine with his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus Regina Coeli Council Number 2274.

Bobby was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Helen, and his brother Charles "Chilly" Orme. He is survived by his wife, Bitsy, his son Brian, daughter-in-law Rachel, grandchildren Logan and Lincoln, of Saint Petersburg, FL, daughter Helen and her partner Clayton Aldrich, of Cedar Creek, TX, his brother and sister-in-law, John and Lori Orme of Edgewater, MD, and his beloved dog, Skeeter.

Bobby, a lover of sports, played football at Baltimore Junior College and later semi-professionally. He coached lacrosse at the United Youth Club in Tracy's Landing, MD and at Saints Peter and Paul High School in Easton, MD. He spent the last decade enjoying college hockey and attending the Frozen Four every year with friends. He was a lifetime sailor and competitively raced, mostly out of the West River in Galesville, MD.

Bobby's other hobbies included growing the perfect tomato in his garden that was way too large, bird hunting with his brothers-in-law and traveling with family and friends. In his younger years, he was an airplane owner and pilot and raced his GTO and Trans Am before he had to trade those in for a station wagon.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bobby's life on Thursday, July 11 at a prayer service held at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home at 200 S. Harrison Street, Easton, MD from 5-7 pm. A funeral mass will begin at 11 am on Friday, July 12th, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 101 Owensville Rd, West River, MD, with a reception to follow at the church hall. A private interment will be held at a later date.
