Roger Sekera

Roger Sekera, 86, died peacefully at Easton hospital in the early hours of August 16, 2025. Roger was born in Berwyn, Illinois on August 23, 1938, to Irwin and Mildred Sekera/Ratajik, both descendants of Czechoslovakia. He is survived by his wife, Sue Sekera, his son, Jeffrey Sekera, his daughter, Katie Sekera, his sister, Susie Opdahl and his beloved West Highland Terrier, Percy.

Roger spent his high school & college years at Lyons Township in La Grange IL, De Pauw University in Greencastle, IN and Loyola University for a Masters Degree in Industrial Relations. He joined the U.S. Navy as a Supply Officer in 1962. Most of his career in Human Resources/Executive Search Consulting was spent in Chicago and Washington D.C. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including sailing, cross-country skiing and was an avid sports fan, especially of baseball. In later years, he became passionate about model railroads as his main hobby and was part of a large group in the DC area. Moving to Easton in 2020, he built from scratch a model of a 1959 Norfolk, Virginia railroad, now completely operational.

During his long, active life, Roger and Sue were fortunate to travel overseas frequently. They spent extensive periods of time with his British in-laws in Dorset, UK, and owned a second home in southern France.

As someone summed him up: "a stalwart friend for many decades; smart, humorous and a pleasure to be with. What a blessing to have known him."

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2025 at 3pm at Christ Church, St. Michaels Parish 301 S. Talbot St, St. Michaels, MD.
