Sandra Stone Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Bowie Stone, 82, of Easton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on

August 31, 2025.

Born July 3, 1943 in Alexandria, Virginia to Mabel Elizabeth Mattson Bowie and Frank McKay

Bowie, Sandy grew up with her younger sister in both Virginia and Kensington, Maryland. From

a young age, she was captivated by the ballet stage. In 1957, she began training with the

Washington School of Ballet, where she not only studied but also shared her love of dance by

teaching neighboring children in her small home studio. During high school, she toured with the

company, and at just 20 years old, Sandy joined the Philadelphia Ballet Company. Her career

as a dancer also took her across the world, studying and performing with the Royal Ballet in

London and in Paris.

In 1966, Sandy embraced a new adventure as a Stewardess and First Purser with Pan

American Airlines, traveling the globe as part of an international crew for the next decade. In

1976, she married William Wallace Stone of Georgetown, Washington DC, and together they

built a loving family, raising three children - Elizabeth Cameron, Catherine Anne and William

Wallace in Easton, Maryland where they have lived for nearly 40 years.

Sandy was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, friend, mother and grandmother. Beyond her

professional accomplishments, she was a gifted painter, an avid reader, and a lifelong lover of

classical music and architecture. She delighted in cooking, traveling, and savoring life's

experiences, always bringing warmth and patience to everything she did. Her journey - rich with

artistry, adventure and love - was a testament to the fact that she truly knew how to live. A

sentiment she shared with those around her often.

She leaves behind a legacy of grace, creativity, and love that will be carried forward by her

family and all who knew her.

Sandy is survived by her husband William W. Stone Sr., sister Nancy Bowie Van Tine, children

Elizabeth Cameron Stone Cowee, Catherine Anne Stone and William Wallace Stone Jr, her 5

grandsons: William Hawken Cowee, Tucker N. Cowee, Esker F. Stone, William W. Stone III and

Wesley P. Stone. A service to honor Sandy's life will be held at a later date.
