Steve Henckel Obituary
He was born on August 2, 1951 in Easton, Maryland the son of the late Frederick Charles Henckel Sr., and Louise Williams Henckel of Easton.
Growing up in the Bay Hundred area of Talbot County, he attended Easton High School. After his education, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his service, he returned home and worked as a caretaker for Rich Neck Manor and later for Bay Hundred Botanicals.
He was married to Darlene Cooper Henckel. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2012.
Steve never met a stranger. At times known as the unofficial Mayor of Saint Michaels, Steve was known for his outgoing personality and a smile to match. He loved spending time with his children and family, friends and loved ones.
An avid outdoorsman of hunting and gardening; his passion was fishing. He also was a collector and infamous Eastern Shore archeologist excavating sites for Native American artifacts. He had a large collection of Native American arrowheads and trading beads. Many selections from his collections were on display at the Smithsonian, Colonial Williamsburg and other museums.
He is survived by his mother Louise Williams Henckel of Easton, three children: Steven Henckel, Jr. of McDaniel, Justin Henckel and his partner Kari of Gettysburg, PA, and Brittany Gross of Easton, one granddaughter: Autumn Henckel, a brother Frederick Henckel, Jr., a sister-in-law, Jackie Dewitt of McDaniel, and a special cousin Sue Genter of Arizona.
In addition to his father and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Henckel.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 12:00 Noon at the Framptom Funeral Home - Ostrowski Chapel in Saint Michaels. Pastor Bobby Davis will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00-12:00.
