Virginia Barcomb Obituary

Virginia Lee "Ginny" Barcomb, a cherished member of the Easton, Maryland community, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, at the age of 91.

Ginny was born on April 8, 1934, in Seattle, Washington, to the late Aubrey Maxwell Callis and Mildred Virginia Callis (Hines).

Ginny's life was marked by warmth, kindness, humor, and an unwavering commitment to her family, friends and her beloved three-legged cat, Pretty Boy.

Ginny earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew University and later in life pursued a master's degree in social work while raising four children in Cohasset, MA with her then husband, Wayne Barcomb.

As a field case worker in Boston, MA, Ginny was a consummate professional with a huge heart, affecting positive changes within some of the most racially charged, crime ridden areas in the inner city. She was also fearless. More than once, she chased down her purse snatcher (successfully reclaiming her bag).

Later in life she turned her passion for travel into a paying gig as an international tour guide with Collette Tours, traveling the world entertaining, educating, and cultivating life-long friendships.

Ginny was known for her quick (irreverent) wit and boisterous laugh; her elegance and sense of style was unparalleled, and she was the first pick on any Trivial Pursuit team. She was a talented actress, a prolific reader, and an exquisite artist.

Ginny is preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Mildred Callis, her sons, Jeffrey Barcomb and Jimmy Barcomb, and her former husband of 25 years, Wayne Barcomb.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Doyle (Ken) and sons Scott Barcomb (Irina); David Barcomb (Mindy); Seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister, Nancy Turner (Edmund); as well as nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to honor Ginny's life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, located at 200 S. Harrison Street in Easton, MD. Family, friends, and all who knew Ginny are invited to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.

The family has created a Life Tributes page to share memories and photos of Ginny, which can be viewed at the funeral home's website, www.fhnfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Talbot Hospice: https://talbothospice.org or Tred Avon Players: https://www.tredavonplayers.org in Ginny's memory.

Ginny's legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
