Bonnie Jean (Jenkins) Behrendt, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025 in the presence of her family at 78 years of age. Born on June 11, 1947 in Luray, VA, she lived with increasingly progressive dementia for over 12 years.
Bonnie was the daughter of Ethel Mae (Howell) Jenkins and Freddie William Jenkins. She graduated from Rappahannock High School, where she played basketball, and retired from Verizon after a long tenure.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, David Alan Behrendt; daughter, Haley Jean Whitlock (Steven) Gyory; and stepdaughters Lindsey (Jared) Wangsgard and Shelly (Tony) Tanks; grandchildren, Meredith Robin Gyory, Luke Whitlock Gyory, Elizabeth Morgan Whitlock Smith, Jared Ryder Wangsgard, Joel Ryan Wangsgard, and Jasper Rhys Wangsgard; sisters Mary Anne (Jenkins) Kline, Marjorie Mae (Jenkins) Marston, Deborah Christine (Jenkins) Saunders; brothers Russell Ashley Jenkins, Wayne Eugene Jenkins, Douglas Carson Jenkins, and Sidney Allen (Evelyn) Jenkins; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Robin Kelly Whitlock Smith; her parents and brothers William Ralph Jenkins, William Garfield Jenkins, Freddie Magruder Jenkins, and Lindsay Webb Jenkins.
Bonnie worked for Verizon for 30 years in Culpeper, VA and Richmond, VA and was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. In her retirement, she enjoyed working at Pepperberries downtown and hosting weekly dinners and an annual Mother's Day cookout for family and friends.
Visitation at Clore English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Hwy, Culpeper, VA 22701 is at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Culpeper National Cemetery, 305 U.S. Avenue, Culpeper, VA. The family will host a reception following the burial at the American Legion Post 330, 14222 Rixeyville Road, Culpeper, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bonnie's memory to Hopewell United Methodist Church, 23557 Lignum Road, Lignum, VA 22726 or to the American Legion Post 330.
