Sherman Nunberg

Sherman Evan Nunberg, 60, of Reedville, Virginia, passed away August 11, 2022, following a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born July 24, 1962, in Alexandria, Virginia, as part of the "second wave" of eight children of Casmir and Dorothy Nunberg. Sherman was a friend to many people from Alexandria, Culpeper, and the Northern Neck of Virginia, Washington State and all over. He lived his life as he saw fit and on his own terms. He worked and volunteered in many roles ranging from an altar boy to a NASCAR tire technician and spotter to an accomplished carpenter. Sherman loved the Chesapeake Bay and its environs. He was father to Garrett M. Altizer and brother, son, uncle, and friend to a large group. Sherman was sure to light up a room with his smile, quick wit, and laughter.

Sherman is survived by his son, Garrett; brothers, Steven (Kathie) Nunberg, and David (Dayna) Nunberg; and sisters, Melinda (Bob) Hughes, Melissa Azzam, and Melanie (Kevin) George. He was preceded in death by his parents, Casmir and Dorothy; older brothers, Casmir Jr. and Russell; sister-in-law, Kathy; and brother-in-law, Charles.

A celebration of Sherman's life will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022, 2 p.m. at the farm of his close friend Chad Cowger, 1998 Ecoganic Farm Lane, Warrenton, Virginia. This will be a celebration in the style of the Rogues End Benevolent Society of which Sherman was a proud founding member. As he requested, Sherman was cremated and his ashes will be spread on the Chesapeake Bay at a later date.
