Virginia E. Hitt

Virginia Elizabeth Hitt, age 84, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Novant Health UVA Culpeper Hospital in Culpeper, VA.

She was born on September 24, 1938, in Rappahannock County, VA to the late John and Viola Belle (Woodward) Haines.

In her prime, she was an avid BINGO player, loved to can vegetables, and scratch lottery tickets. She was a mother to many and a stranger to no one. The friends she made were lifelong and cherished. She always gave the best advice and was always the best listener. In her later years, she enjoyed watching Westerns, game shows, and cooking shows. She was full of life and loved to laugh.

We are embracing the fact that she is now with the love of her life, Harvey Hitt. If you were honored to know them, then you knew how special they were together. They enjoyed sharing 36 years of their life in Elkwood.

Predeceased by her parents; her husband Harvey Myers Hitt and her siblings: Mary Ann Woodard, Charles Turner Haynes, Russell Thomas Haines, Floyd A. Haines, William E. Haines, John Haines, Jr., Mildred Smith, and Rosemary Haines.

Survivors include two children: Rinker Jade "Jay" Haines (Melinda Scott) of Culpeper, VA, and Theresa Farrell Johnson (Andy) of Lignum, VA; two brothers: Richard Haines (Hazel) of Brandy Station, VA and Elmer Haines (Becky) of Culpeper, VA. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA where a funeral will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lee Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens, 4160 Rixeyville Road, Jeffersonton, VA 22724. Pallbearers serving the family will be Rick Haines, Kenny Haines, Glen Haines, Mark Haines, David Haines, and David Compton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lee Haines and Kenny Roles.

The family wishes to thank Novant Health UVA Culpeper Hospital for the care and support they provided. A special thanks to Janet Jarrells, a lifelong friend, for all the times she was a companion to our mother. Virginia was especially fond of her son's late chihuahua Titan, who passed in November. Titan meant the world to her.
