Sylvia Costin Obituary
Sylvia Parrish Costin, age 86, died November 29, 2020 at Superior Residences in Panama City Beach, FL. She was born September 1, 1934, in St. Augustine, FL to the late Herschel Hooper Parrish Sr. and Almeida Partee Parrish. She began attending school in St. Augustine, FL, however, the family moved to Orlando, FL in 1944 where she continued her education at Fullerwood Elementary School and graduated from Orlando High School in 1952. Sylvia obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Florida State University, graduating in 1956. While at Florida State she was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. During her time at Florida State she met her husband Ashley Marion Costin. Upon moving to Port St. Joe, FL, after living in Quantico, VA while her husband, Ashley Costin, served as an officer with the United States Marine Corps, Syliva taught elementary school and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Port Saint Joe and the DAR for many years. Sylvia ('Nani') is survived by her daughter Marion A. Costin of Jackson, MI; son Robert A. (Bobby) Costin of Asheville, NC; daughter Leslie C. Jennewein (and husband Don) of Tampa, FL; son Mark H. Costin (and wife Kayce) of Port Saint Joe, FL and 11 grandchildren: Ashleigh Horning, Blaine, Corey and Derek Coffey of Jackson, MI, Andrew, Liz and Will Jennewein of Tampa, FL, Kali Costin Gaiser of Panama City, Fl and Carter, Cade and Caroline Costin of Port Saint Joe. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ashley M. Costin; parents, Herschel Hooper Parrish, Sr. and Almeida P. Parrish; and brother, Herschel H. Parrish, Jr. Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. ET on December 2, 2020 at Long Avenue Baptist Church in Port Saint Joe with a service to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers , please consider donations to Faith Christian School, (Scholarship Fund), 801 20th Street, Port St. Joe, Florida, 32456.

Nani was one of a kind for sure. She was sincere, kind, generous and one of the most selfless people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Her spirit, her sense of humor, and her sweet nature will be sorely missed by all who knew her. My Mom said it perfectly when she said she didn’t know of one person that knew her that didn’t love her. What a legacy that is. Sending love and heartfelt condolences to all whose lives she touched. I know she’s in the presence of Jesus and beaming with joy in Heaven.

God blessed Gulf County with Sylvia's presence. I have been blessed to have known her and married into distant kinship through the Pridgeon lineage so many years ago. I know she is now in the presence of our Lord and savior with all the family welcoming her in.

Sylvia would visit our Sunday School group when she was in Winter Garden and I remember her vivacious personality and smile. We always enjoyed visiting with her. We loved her. I know she will be missed but Heaven gained another resident. God's Blessing to all the family.
