Kary was born on April 5, 1959, to Herb and Vivian (Carlson) Ullrich. The youngest of five children, she arrived just seven minutes after her twin sister. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1977, where she excelled in basketball and volleyball. Kary earned her Associate in Arts Degree from Nebraska Western College (now Western Nebraska Community College) and went on to complete her Bachelor of Science in Education from Chadron State College in 1981. A lifelong learner, she later earned her Master's Degree in Education, specializing in reading, in 2007.
Kary devoted 40 years to teaching in schools across western Nebraska before retiring in 2020. Known affectionately as "Ms. Mac" by her students, she was admired for her dedication, patience, and love for children.
Active and energetic, Kary loved spending time outdoors with her husband, Rick Miller. Together, they enjoyed biking, hiking at the monument, going to the gym, camping, and off-roading in their UTV. Kary also cherished time with her ten grandchildren and four children of dear friends she considered grandchildren. Whether baking sugar cookies, reading stories, or playing hide-and-seek with them, those moments brought her the greatest happiness.
Their church family and dear friends provided Kary and Rick with deep support. They often shared adventures with the Wallaces and Sterkels, exploring the Black Hills together in their UTV, times Kary treasured greatly.
Kary's life was marked by love, faith, and service. She was devoted to her family, her students, and above all, her faith in Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Rick Miller; her children, Jennifer Webb (Andrew) and Michael McCafferty (Melissa); her stepchildren, Amanda Jaris (Thaddeus), Caden Miller (Jessica), Christian Miller, and Madison Miller; and her siblings, Don Ullrich (Sharon), Robert Ullrich, Wesley Ullrich (Debbie), and Mary Christensen (Roger).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Vivian Ullrich, and her sister-in-law, Kelli Ullrich.
