Larry McKee Obituary

Larry Richard McKee January 18, 2022 Larry Richard McKee died from complications from Parkinson's Disease, on January 18, 2022, at the age of 74. Larry was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on April 21, 1947 to Florence (Reichert) and Melvin "Mac" McKee. After graduating from Gering High School, he attended Scottsbluff Junior College before transferring to South Dakota School of Mines where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering. He later earned his Master's Degree at University of Wyoming, where he also completed Army ROTC. He was united in marriage to Janet Corman on January 3, 1976 and they went on to make their home in Gering, NE where they raised their three children. Larry spent a large part of his career working with his dad in the boating and marine business. After leaving the marine business, he sold and serviced water distillers and rarely left the house without his "Precision Water Systems" hat. Larry was an avid water skier and happiest in the boat. He loved spending time with his family and rarely missed a day of exercise. He will be remembered for many things including his dry sense of humor, tenacity and work ethic. Larry is survived by his wife, Janet McKee, his three children, Heather McKee (Erik Underwood), Megan Zigmond (Jeremy Zigmond) and Michael McKee (Eileen Pfefferle), two grandchildren, Ethan and Connor Zigmond, and his sister, Bonnie McKee. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of Larry's life will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials have been established to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Panhandle Humane Society and Legacy of the Plains Museum.

Larry was my best friend in high school. We use to water ski at lake Minatare and fish at Terry´s lake in Terrytown. We also challenged each other to games of horse and pig in basketball. Miss you Larrry!

Janet, I'm long removed from the Gering Valley but remember Larry well. I am so sad for the loss you and your children have had. That Parkinson's is a tough thing to watch your loved one go through. Prayers for the future days as you all recover and remember the great memories and wonderful years with Larry.

Larry was one of my best friends in high school. We spent time together skiing and swimming at lake Minatare during the summer months. I miss him.

My parents, Roy & June Russell were friends of Larry's folks. I remember visiting them, eating at their house in Gering & having a very nice time. We spent time fishing at the Kimball lake, too. Larry & Bonnie were much younger than me but I remember them as very cute toddlers & babies. Their mother, Florence was a very good homemaker & mother & I admired her. Melvin was fun. He & my dad had good stories to tell. If I remember right, they were in the Army together for awhile but were in different units later. I really got to "know" Larry by reading his obit. I knew when Larry's parents passed away. Now it doesn't seem right to be sending sympathy to Larry's family for his passing. I'm very sorry for your loss!
