Matthew was born on Dec. 21, 1984, to Jerry and Kim Rodehorst (Weber) in Scottsbluff. He attended grade school at Westmoor, junior high at Scottsbluff Middle School, and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in May of 2002. After graduation, Matthew attended University of Wyoming in Laramie, majoring in art. He moved back to Scottsbluff after college and continued to work in the area. At the time of his death he was employed by Aurora Loan Services, and had received the "Employee of the Month Award."
As a child, Matt was always very curious, and asked many questions about how things worked. His favorite question was WHY?. Matthew was in basketball, and baseball as a youngster. During the summers, his cousins from Colorado would come and spend 3-4 day with us, and that was always a highlight for Matt. Matt began scouting at age 5, and his scouting adventures culminated in him earning his Eagle award in 2001. During his school years, Matt was involved in working on various publications in high school, making pottery, playing the piano, guitar and baseball. Matthew loved working on cars, making fountains, and working outdoors. He and his friends in high school formed a car club and spent hours working and talking about cars. Matt was a very creative, fun loving individual, who was loved by many friends and all family members. While attending University of Wyoming, he became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Matthew was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was confirmed, and served as an Acolyte. Matthew's favorite dog was King, who he helped raise at the young age of 5 years. He also raised a cock-a-tiel named Popeye. Raleigh was his latest canine companion. Matthew spent much time during his high school years and later with his cousin, Myles, discussing issues of life. Lacey Gillman was also a wonderful support person for Matthew over the past 4-5 years.
Survivors include his parents, Jerry J. Rodehorst of Scottsbluff, Kim Weber (Callahan-Rodehorst) of Scottsbluff; stepfather, Dana Weber; brother, Spencer Rodehorst of Denver; sister, Hannah Rodehorst, Scottsbluff; stepsister, Jordan Weber of Breckenridge, Colo.; step-brother, Cullen Weber of Scottsbluff; his maternal grandparents, Opal and Jerry Callahan, of Scottsbluff; maternal grandmother, Helen Rodehorst of Bennett, Colo.; aunts and uncles, Kevin Callahan (Peggy) of Scottsbluff, Gail (Phil) Mosteller of Scottsbluff, Vickie Miller of Denver, Melody (Brian) Windecker of Watkins, Colo., Gary (Zena) Rodehorst of Aurora, Colo., and many cousins.
Preceding him in death was his paternal grandfather, Melvin Rodehorst.
Rest in the peace of God's arms, now, Matthew. We all love you and you will be forever in our hearts.
