Michael Mapes Obituary

Michael Joseph Blake Mapes was born in Vallejo California, September 22nd, 1996, at 3:38 A.M. Weighing in at 5 pounds 1 ounce and 18 3/4 inches long. At the age of six, Michael became a resident of Scottsbluff County Nebraska.

Michael's life was full of so many accomplishments. From always having the biggest and sweetest smile, to having the biggest ears; his mother's little Dumbo and another's peas and carrots. To being a star athlete throughout his entire school career, still holding track and field and cross-country records in Gering school district. Michael put his all into everything he had ever done, beaming with pride. He was the hardest worker.

Michael was always there for his children, his wife, friends, and numerous family members. He was an impeccable son, brother, father, nephew, uncle, husband, cousin, and friend. Keeping them as close as he could to protect and help them.

Unforgettable, strong, thoughtful, passionate, stubborn, prideful, collector of things that did not belong to him, such as his mother's skin products and his father's tools. His culinary skills were a sight to see, if only you had the stomach.

With a heavy heart.

On May 31st, 2024, at 2:23 pm, Michael Joseph Blake Mapes was pronounced brain dead at Banner North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley Colorado Weld County, while traveling for work with Paul Reed Construction.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandmother; Frances Mae Mapes (52), his nephew; Andrew Joseph Mapes (13) and his eldest son; Xavior Ray Mapes (9). Grandfather Robert W. Gabel, Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather Bennie and Bonnie Laub.

Michael left his precious memories too; his mother, Nancey Sara Mapes-Gabel (48) and his father, Kenneth Allen Gabel (46). His sister, Jade Elizabeth Mapes (30) and his niece, Amerrah Mae Mapes-McNair (7).

The Light of this life, his beautiful wife, Makayla Maureen Mapes and their six beautiful children. Xavior Ray Mapes (9), Melanie Rose Mapes (8), Xander Rainn Mapes (3), Zyn'azia Gorgeous Mapes (2), Kia' Riano Z Blake Mapes (1) and their soon to be newest addition, a blessing in every way possible. Malorie Ruth Blanche Mapes. Along with a long list of loving family members.

Michaels last gift to the world was being an organ and tissue donor. On June 2nd, 2024, Michael was able to help save five lives with his organs and up to 78 tissue recipients.

Dumbo received his feather and his legacy will fly on.

A balloon release will take place at Hampton Inn and Suites Scottsbluff, NE 69361. Sunday June 16,2024 from 2pm to 4pm.

Send our condolences and prayers with his family. I have not known him for a very long time but him and my husband got really close. Mapes was an amazing man and absolutely loved his wife and kids. Every time we talked it was always about his wife and my husband and plans that in the future. May god rest your soul. Everytime your family friends wife and kids get that sun leaking through the clouds it´s you giving them hugs and kisses, letting them know that you are with them.

Makayla please let me know if there is anything we can do and again my line is always open to you anytime.
