Steven Haas Obituary

Steven Haas October 12, 2020 Steven Haas age 76, passed away at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon, on October 12, 2020 after a brief battle with a rare blood disorder. Steve graduated from Minatare High School in 1962 and married his high school sweetheart Marsha (McCutchan) in 1964. He joined the US Navy in 1967 and served as a hospital corpsman and X-ray technician at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia and the Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, FL until his honorable discharge in 1974. Steve received his degree in accounting from the University of Montana in 1976 and his CPA designation in 1977. He began his career as an accountant in Scottsbluff, then returned to Montana two years later. A career opportunity prompted a move to Anchorage, AK, where he founded his own practice that he would run for 25 years until his retirement in 2011. Steve and Marsha relocated to Bend, OR, where they enjoyed 10 years of retirement together. In their new home Steve would often be seen maintaining the grounds in their community or helping neighbors with snow removal. He was a family man who loved Alaska, his dogs (usually chihuahuas), traveling the world with Marsha, camping trips in their RV, refurbishing old cars, woodworking, golf, and target shooting. He was preceded in death by his father Carl, his mother Marie, sister Karlene, and brothers-in-law Roger Burbach and Clark Irion. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Marsha, son Brian (Julie), daughter Tara (Jonathan), brother Wayne (Patricia), sister Lorraine, and seven grandchildren. Public services were not held due to COVID restrictions. His wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes dispersed by his family at a later date.
