Tom Castillo Obituary

Tom Castillo

July 30, 1955 - June 1, 2025

Tom Castillo, beloved brother, passed away at age 69, on Sunday, June 1, 2025, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Tom leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a lifetime of unforgettable memories.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, (José) Joe Q. and Anita (Sanchez) Castillo of Lyman, NE, and an older brother, Joe Castillo, Jr. of Weatherford, TX.

Tom was born on July 30, 1955 in Scottsbluff, NE but spent his early years in Lyman, NE. He graduated from Lyman High School in 1975. At the age of 27, Tom proudly joined the United States Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Lance Corporal. Tom later moved to Florida where he embraced his passion for baking, crafting delightful pastries and bread that brought joy to many. In 2016 he moved to Lubbock, TX seeking to be closer to the family he loved while enjoying the simple pleasures of retirement. Tom was a staunch supporter of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, a passion that became a bridge that connected him to his roots and to the community he held dear.

Tom is survived by his siblings: Gloria Phillips, Lucy Torres, Juanita Brock, and Lenora Castillo, all of Lincoln, NE; Lupe Castillo, Susie Moreno, and Diana Santos, all of Lubbock, TX; Frank Castillo of San Antonio, TX; Fred Castillo, Christine Renteria, and Paul Castillo, all of O'Donnell, TX; and Sandra Gonzalez of Grand Island, NE. Tom also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.

At his request, Tom will be buried at the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Lubbock, TX in the fall of 2025, when the cemetery is scheduled to be open.
