Tom Engstrom

Tom Engstrom September 12, 1938-April 22, 2023 Tom Engstrom, 84, of Sterling, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, in Sterling. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, April 28, at Tennant Funeral Home with Pastor James Nash officiating. Tom was born to Gus and Mollie (Schwartz) Engstrom on the south-west corner of Hubbard's Hill on the Old Shorty Canon place near Morrill, NE on Sept. 12, 1938. Tom grew up in the valley going to Morrill and Scottsbluff schools. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1957. Tom was united in Marriage to JoAnn Carpenter July 6, 1958. To this union were born Terri Jo, Tommy Scott, Gregory Lee, Jeffrey Allen, and Timothy Michael. Tom went to work at the Co-op Food Store and later went to work for Meadow Gold Dairy as a route salesman. Later, he went on his own and sold retail dairy products until he sold his route in 1968. He then went to work for Simplot Soil Builders as a salesman until 1973 when he and his brother, Bill started Engstrom Fertilizer & Chemical. In 1988, they sold their business to Simplot Soil Builders and Tom went back to Simplot as a salesman. In 1990, Tom was transferred to Torrington, WY as Unit Manager. He retired in 2000 due to ill health. In 2004, Tom went to work part time, driving for the Handy Bus. After moving to Sterling, CO in 2011, Tom drove for the County Express until 2017. He loved driving the buses and the patrons loved him. Survivors are his wife, JoAnn; children, Terri (Ken) Minch, Timothy (Brenda) Engstrom; grandchildren, Justin and Danielle Minch, Amanda Engstrom, Jenny Witte, and Ben and David Engstrom; great-grandchildren, Andrew "Drew" Engstrom, Tyler Murphy and Calvin Witte; brother, Bill; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in Death were his sons, Scott, Gregory and Jeffrey; his mother; father; brother, John; and sister, Nancy. He was loved deeply. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tom's name to Hospice of the Plains care of Tennant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
