Alex Shotts Obituary
Dr. Shotts was a lifelong resident of Jackson. His undergraduate work was at Millsaps College where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. This was followed by five years of active duty in the army. He was a Commissioned Officer in the paratroops in the 82nd Airborne Division Artillery, serving two years in Germany. Following military service, he attended dental school at the University of Tennessee and received The Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree. He then entered the department of Orthodontics and received a Masters' Degree in Orthodontia. This was followed by thirty years of orthodontic practice in Jackson.
As a private pilot, he and his wife traveled extensively, especially after retirement. He was a lifelong member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He leaves a legacy of utmost integrity, a sense of humor, and an enormous love for life.
He is preceded in death by his precious wife, Millie, who passed away six months ago, and his loving daughter, Donna Shotts Schutzmann. He is survived by his daughter, Pam Morgan (Charlie) of Starkville, his son, Chip (Janet) Shotts of Madison, son-in-law, Karl (Pamela) Schutzmann of Pensacola Beach; grandchildren, Candice Morgan, Bryce Morgan (Brittany), Ryan Schutzmann, Morgan Schutzmann, Peyton Shotts, and great grandchildren, Brystol, Farrah, Cutter, and Vail Morgan.
Our family would like to thank caregiver, Johnnie Miles, for her kindness and care for our sweet Dad. We also thank Hospice Ministries for their services.
ln lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the charity of your choice. A private celebration of life will be held for the immediate family only.

How nice it was to be reminded today of Dr. Shotts! I LOVED his white and yellow office on Lakeland, and he must have loved it, too, after time spent in the previous building where I started my treatment as a teenager. He used his chair as a stage for his comedy and that made it all more enjoyable!

Alex was a high school classmate of my brother, Bobby McKinley, friends with Richard Hawkins, Clinton Montz and others that ran around together. Alex was always nice to me, especially after I graduated from Orthodontics at Tennessee. We associated in our professional organizations. He always had words of wisdom to share with me that was helpful in life and the practice of orthodontics.
God bless him in his afterlife and know that he is well remembered!

I was truly saddened to learn of Alex's passing. He was not only an old flying buddy but, he was my friend. I shall miss him. May his final flight West be a smooth one.

I will always treasure my recollections of Dr. Shotts's stories. I laughed a lot when I was with him. He was truly one of a kind, and I'm so thankful I got to know him.

I'm so sorry for your loss and pray that wonderful memories will sustain you through this passage. Dr. Shotts became my orthodontist in 1976, and his humor made the discomfort of wearing braces easier to manage. It was so nice when he opened his fantastic office over on Lakeland Drive, and I am sure he was very proud of that achievement!
