Bert Shapiro Grandfather of seven, unwavering Mets fan Bert Shapiro, 89, passed away this morning peacefully in his sleep. Graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Wellwood Cemetery in Pinelawn, N.Y. Arrangements were handled by Bernheim-Apter-Kreiztman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston, N.J. Born and raised in Far Rockaway, N.Y., Bert entered the Navy after high school and graduated from Syracuse University in 1952. For most of his life, Bert lead companies in the manufacturing and production of lace and women's apparel. Upon retirement, Bert actively pursued watercolor painting and composing his memoir. Bert was an avid golfer, and an unwavering fan to his beloved New York Mets. Bert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marcia; four children: Lori (Jed), Carla, Sandy, and Mark (Lisa), and seven grandchildren.
