Jean Martin Waugh Longtime choir member in Verona and enthusiastic birder, widow of Superior Court judge Jean Martin Waugh of Warren Township, N.J., formerly of Verona, N.J.; Morris Township, N.J., and Chatham Township, N.J., died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at age 92. Born in Verona, N.J., on Jan. 8, 1922, Jean was the daughter of the late Joseph Martin and Viola Griffith Martin. After attending the University of Miami, she worked for a doctor in Verona prior to her marriage to Alexander P. Waugh in 1943. Her husband, who was a Superior Court assignment judge in Essex and Morris counties, predeceased her, as did her son, Joseph Martin Waugh. Jean is survived by her daughter, Margaret Waugh Howie and her husband, Melvin Howie; her son, Alexander P. Waugh Jr. and his wife, Barbara Pryor Waugh, and her daughter, Catherine Waugh Gilbert and her husband, Robert Gilbert, as well as seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Jean was a longtime member of the choir at the First Congregational Church in Verona. An avid birder, Jean was a Girl Scout leader in Morristown, N.J. She enjoyed traveling in Great Britain with her husband and, after his death in 1998, with her children. A memorial service will be scheduled in November. Arrangements are under the direction of Higgins Home for Funerals, Watchung, N.J.
