William Venino Obituary

Devoted husband, loving father & cherished grandfather On Sunday, October 23, 2022, William Venino, devoted husband, loving father and cherished grandfather, passed away at age 83. Born in 1939 in Orange, NJ, he was the son of Charles and Helen (Lafferty) Venino. He had one brother, Charles, and spent his childhood in Orange. Bill was married by Msgr. Robert Eagen of Boystown, to Brenda Farabaugh in August 1966. He earned his BA and MA from Jersey City State College (NJCU), School of Psychologist Certification from Kean and a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from University of Mississippi. A proud graduate of Our Lady of the Valley HS, he was All County in basketball, then First Team All-Conference for two years in college where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Bill continued playing vigorously until the age of 60 when ankle injuries became too acute. More importantly Bill made life-long friends along the way. Bill's professional endeavors began as a classroom teacher followed by adjunct college professor, school psychologist, counselor, then Chief Psychologist at NJ Boystown, and licensed clinical psychologist in private practice. In later life, Bill enjoyed his canine companions, keeping fit at the gym, gardening, Turner Classics, Hoffman's Ice Cream and Joe Leone's. But life centered around his devoted wife and teammate of 56 years, Brenda; his beloved children, Bill (Jenn), John (Dana), Jim (Traci), Sue, and Chris (Michelle); and his cherished grandchildren, John, Reilly, Avery, Ava, Sophia, Hope and Gianna. With our deepest gratitude to Dr. John A. Schmidt for his compassion and immeasurable knowledge. A lifelong practicing Catholic and man of strong faith, Bill will be waked at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall, NJ on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 28th at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of St. Rose, 603 Seventh Ave, Belmar, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306 or at t2t.org. To send condolences please visit www.obrienfuneralhome.com. Our condolences to Brenda and family for the loss of wonderful man.

Thank you for having afforded me the privilege of being Billy´s college basketball coach. We shared many memorable moments together. We also shared devoted friendship with Billy and Brenda for over 60 years.

To: Brenda and family.
I know Bill fought the good fight over a long period of time. I am sure he was able to do so because of the tremendous support and love from you and the family.
As I write this email I cannot help but smile and think of all the times we played ball either at the Venino gyms or up in the Holmdel gym. Such great memories.
Much love and prayers to the Venino Clan

I am a grade school classmate of Bill, affectionately known as "Punk", back in the day. My clearest recollection of Punk was the magic he generated on a basketball court. He was amazing. I was always "blown away" how a person with such short fingers could "palm" a basketball. I offer my sincere condolences to his friends and family.
