CHARLES CARMAN Obituary

CARMAN

Charles Eddy Carman, age 93, of McKinney, Texas, passed away November 27, 2024. He was born February 8, 1931, in Princeton, Texas, to Wayman W. Carman and Grace Lee (Craver) Carman.

Charles grew up in Princeton, Texas, and graduated from Princeton High School in 1949. Charles proudly served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 and was a veteran of the Korean conflict where he saw combat with the 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division until the truce was signed. He then attended The University of North Texas where he received a B. S. in Industrial Arts Education in 1957.

Charles married the love of his life, Wenona Doris Recer, on May 8, 1954, in Princeton, Texas. After college, Charles joined State Farm Insurance Companies where he had a successful career for 33 years, retiring in 1993 as Superintendent of Property Claims in the State Farm Regional Office in Dallas, Texas. He was an enthusiastic member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, and received the 33rd. Degree, Inspector General Honorary, Southern Jurisdiction in 1985.

Charles was a singer all his life and was a member of several male quartets, the two most prominent being the Dugger Quartet, which sang on the gospel circuits from 1948 until 1952, and the Hella Temple Shrine Hello Quartet. This latter group traveled and performed as musical ambassadors and representatives of Hella Shrine Temple throughout Texas and as far away as Florida, singing the “old songs”, gospel and patriotic programs. He also sang with The Dallas Male Chorus for several years and with several Barbershop Quartets in Dallas and the surrounding areas.

Charles was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1954 and sang in the Chancel Choir for 63 years before retiring in 2017. Singing in the choir was a great joy for both Charles and Wenona.

He is survived by his nieces, Lana Grantham and family, Sara Recer and Carol Beene (Jeff) and family; cousin, Dr. Ben Craver (Ginny) and family; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Wenona Carman. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Wayman and Grace Carman and sister, Frances Eloise Addington.

Special appreciation to his loving caregivers Gemma Bezeau and Adiam (Adi) Tesfaledet.

I enjoyed singing with Charles in the chancel choir at FUMC-McKinney when I lived there back in the 1980s. We usually sat next to each other. He had a great sense of humor!
