ARTHUR ALLGAUER Obituary

ARTHUR EMIL ALLGAUER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Emil Allgauer, 90, on August 22 2013 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington NC. He was born on August 17, 1923 in the good ol' German neighborhood of Ridgewood in Queens NY to Andrew Allgauer from Austria, and Therese (nee Kranz) from The Principality of Lichtenstein. Arthur is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Anne (nee Forman) of Wilmington NC; his sister Rita Munch of Long Island NY; his four sons Mark (Diana) of Wilmington NC; Arthur (Grace) of Metuchen NJ; Roy (Mary) of Bahrain; Andrew (Cyndie) of Lithia FL; his four grandchildren Lisa and Andrew of Metuchen NJ; Kotomi and Chieko of Lithia FL; and his precious Shihtzu Misty. Arthur served in the Army Air Corps during WW II as an airplane mechanic. He proudly worked as an assembly line painter at the Ford Assembly Plant in Mawah NJ, from the day the plant opened until his retirement on the day it closed. He lived and raised his family in Middletown, NY for 18 years where he served as a dedicated Boy Scout leader, Little League coach, band parent, and faithful parishioner of Mt. Carmel Church. He retired to Wilmington NC in 1980 where he enjoyed a second career as a wall paper hanger, and the very able handyman at the Cape Fear Country Club, where he retired again at the age of 85. Artie's work ethic was second to none, and lived by the philosophy that "you make your own luck." He enjoyed travel, golf, the Brooklyn Dodgers, the '69 Mets, Zum Stammtisch, and was unbeatable at Scrabble. He was an exceptional father whose life was devoted to caring for his family. He showed unconditional kindness to everyone he met. A mass will be held in his honor at Immaculate Conception Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington at 10 am on Aug. 27. The family thanks cousin Doris Myers, dear friends Alex and Sylvia Kalmowitz, and everyone at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center for their support and care in his final days.

Fond memories of Artie and Misty, dog-walking partners, and of course Ann too.

I was thinking about Artie and Anne this morning as I walked my Shitzu. Artie and I would talk about travel and family when we walked our dogs, and Anne was always welcoming and positive in our talks. I miss them both.

I'll miss Artie. I admired his positive view on life, and I appreciated his advice about living life well. We were only dog-walking buddies, but he infludenced me to keep following my dream.
My sympathy to Ann and their sons.
