Beverly Strom Obituary

BEVERLY ANN FARROW STROM Beverly Ann Farrow Strom died July, 12th, 2018, at the age of 87 years old. She was the last living child of the late Effie and Arthur Farrow of Masonboro Sound, preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Jr., and sisters: Kaye, Lois, and Rose. Beverly is preceded in death by her sons, Scotty Strom, Randal Strom, and Robert Strom. She is survived by her daughter Diana Richardson (Woody) and Eva Stone (Tony), and her many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her life began on The Sound side of Wilmington, where she grew up attending Masonboro Baptist Church. She loved singing in the church and playing on the willow trees. Beverly Ann later married and carried the family name onto Wrightsville Beach, where she raised her family and taught her kids her Masonboro childhood lessons of oystering, clamming, shrimping, and fishing; which, they have enjoyed along the coast and have passed on to their own children. Beverly, aka "Queen," worked at Wrightsville Beach for over 40 years, waiting tables at Faircloths and The King Neptune. She worked hard and was loved by many. She later retired to Britthaven Of Northchase after health issues and she was soon known there as "Hollywood," where she continued to sing and share her stories of family, fishing, and hard work. Beverly Ann Farrow Strom never knew a stranger and she was family to all. She always made you feel welcomed and made sure you never went hungry. She honored her roots and lived the "Masonboro way." You could find her floating in The Sound digging clams with her feet, giving neighbors bushels of oysters and clams from the day's haul, and enjoying the company of her loud, loving, and large crowd of a family. However you knew her: Mama, Gran Ma, Aunt Ann, Beverly, Queen, or Hollywood; you knew her to always smile her big-dimpled grin and to always have a story or a joke to tell. We will miss our Matriarch. The last of "The Masonboro Girls." May you always think of her when flounder gigging, hauling bushels of oysters, clamming in the mud with your feet, and most of all, when you find yourself celebrating with your family on The Sound. Forever and ever. Forever and a day. Amen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Masonboro Baptist Church. When a visit with Beverly ended, she'd always say, "Remember, just turn by The Church on Beasley Rd...that's the best way home." Her service will be held at Masonboro Baptist Church, on 1501 Beasley Rd, Wilmington, NC, Wednesday, July 25th, 2018 at 2:00PM. We hope to have you with us as we celebrate her life on The Sound, the place she called her home. Condolences to family: www.andrewsmortuary.com
