Bryan Connaughton Obituary

BRYAN E. CONNAUGHTON Bryan Edward Connaughton, 38, of Wilmington, NC passed away unexpectedly in an automobile accident on the evening of June 11, 2016. Originally from Setauket, Long Island, New York, he was born on July 4, 1977 to Michael and Valerie Connaughton. After attending Sienna College, Bryan worked as a tree climber in NY, maintaining and cutting trees. Hired by Fitness Tree Service in 2004, he moved to Wilmington where he continued his line of work, having a special place in his heart for nature and the great outdoors. Bryan was an avid reader, providing him with a wealth of knowledge. Each fall, he enthusiastically pulled for his cherished Chicago Bears. Bryan was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Civiok, his maternal uncle, Peter Civiok, his maternal grandparents, Ed and Alice Civiok, and his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Patricia Connaughton. Surviving is the love of his life Marian Canady and her daughter, Jessica, who he treasured as his own. Also surviving are his father, Michael (Beth) Connaughton, of Wilmington, his mother, Valerie (Richard) Barnes of Setauket, New York, a brother Mike (Lisa) Connaughton of Wilmington and brother Kevin Civiok of Rocky Point, NY. Bryan leaves behind two nieces both of whom he adored, Megan Marie Connaughton and Kelsie Ann Connaughton of Wilmington and his beloved nephew, Matthew Civiok, of Rocky Point, NY. Many wonderful and loyal friends remain to keep his memory and spirit alive. Visitation is planned between 6 and 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Andrews Valley Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Cape Fear Literacy Council, 1012 S. 17th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401. This news makes me so very sad. Bryan spent the day at my house cutting trees and I really enjoyed talking to him. I warned him that poison ivy might be in our yard and he looked at me, smiled, and said, "We eat poison ivy for breakfast." He was such a pleasure...may love and comfort surround his friends and family.

While I never met you, I am so sorry that you left those who loved you way too soon. We don't know how much time we have on this earth and that is not important. It's what we do with the time we are given, and it sounds as if you made your time count. I will sing at your celebration of life Thursday as we celebrate your journey to your heavenly Father.

Valerie and Mike. We send our heartfelt condolences to you. We met Bryan a few months ago when he removed a few trees from our property. What a great guy!! I enjoyed talking about football with him even though he's a Bears Fan. Having been down this same path with our son, we understand your pain. We will pray for the Peace of the Holy Spirit to surround you and yours during this time of grieving.

Although we never met, we love those whom you loved and whom love you...It seems to be that the greatest go to soon...
You will be missed in the days ahead because you made such a mark while here, touched so many, gave so much. All of those that love you will cry because of how much you were loved simply by being you. God Bless those that are hurting so badly from the loss of you May they find peace during this time and find hope in the knowledge and hope that they will see you again in heaven. May they find themselves smiling at some point in time when thinking of you, find comfort in thinking of all the goodness that made who you were while here.
