Dale Boyd Obituary
Dale Woods Boyd, Sr. M.D., 76, of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.
Dr. Boyd was born October 9, 1934, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Robert and Florence Boyd.
Dr. Boyd graduated from the University of Delaware, where he was captain of the wrestling team, Conference Champion and NCAA Division I National qualifier as well as a varsity cross country runner. In 1961, he graduated from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. He proudly served his country achieving the rank of Commander in the US Navy, where he was a medical officer with the Seabee battalion stationed in Laos during the Vietnam conflict and upon returning to the United States was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. He practiced internal medicine in Lancaster, PA, prior to further residency training in Radiology and private practice in Pottsville, PA and New Bern, NC. He enjoyed golfing with friends, watching his grandchildren's sporting events and volunteering at Good Shepherd Ministries.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia; son, Dale, Jr. (Diane); daughter, Nina (Vince); grandchildren, Boomer, Sydney and Kendall; Aunt Virginia and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11am, Monday, April 4, 2011, at Kenan Chapel in Landfall. A reception will follow the service at Landfall Clubhouse.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Dr. Boyd's memory to: Good Shepherd Ministries, 811 Martin St., Wilmington, NC 28401.
