David Secore Obituary

DAVID SECORE David Secore of Wilmington, NC died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center. He was born in Milwaukee, WI the son of the late Chester Secore and Virginia Konopacki Secore. After graduating from high school in Port Edwards, WI, he joined the US Army and served in Germany for two years. He worked for several years for Nekoosa Edwards Paper in WI while studying at DeVry Institute. He then began a 30 year career with IBM in the field engineering division. At the time IBM was said to stand for "I've been moved" and Dave and his family relocated many times in the Midwest before coming to NC in the early 1980's. After 10 years in Raleigh, they moved to Wilmington where he retired. Dave married Sandra Long in 1963. After his diagnosis with Cancer, he promised his wife they would celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and 4 years later, they celebrated with their children and grandson. He always prided himself as being a man of his word. Besides his family, he loved his yard and garden and spent time there nearly every day despite his failing health. A special thank you to the folks at Old Ferry Marina for making it possible for him to continue to go out on his beloved boat. Although his health was declining for many years, he never gave up trying to do those things he loved and had his final trip to the ocean to fish just weeks before his death. Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Long Secore; children Cynthia Teijido of St. Augustine and her son Lawrence Teijido; Susan Secore of Telford PA; Thomas Secore of Boynton Beach and Fiancé Jennifer Herrington; half sister Ellen Arnold of Port Edwards, WI and half brother Steve Arnold and wife Lynn of Milwaukee, WI. A Memorial service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to Lower Cape Fear Hospice. A special Thank You to all the Hospice Staff for their loving care and support of both patient and family. Condolences to the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com

My deepest sympathy goes out to the David Secore family. My uncle was Chet Secore, I have some fond memories of him when I was growing up in Milladore, Wi. My mother was Sally (Sikorski) Durrant. I never have met David. Sincerely, Fredrick (Rick) Durrant

Dave Secore was a true gentleman and one of the nicest people I have ever known. Dave started every conversation with how is Harrison and Kelly no matter how he was feeling. Dave would always share things from his incredible garden and offer me a drink. It was an honor to have known you "partner". I was glad to have had a wonderful conversation with Dave a few weeks back as he worked in his vegetable garden.
My prayers are with the Secore family during this difficult time.

I worked with Dave when he moved to Wilmington as our local IBM field engineering manager. He was outstanding in helping us serve our IBM clients, including participating in an occasional golf outing. I indeed found him to be a man of his word.
My sincerest sympathies,

Ed Burke, formerly of Wilmington, NC
