Don Blake was a wonderful man - caring, funny, dedicated to his family and community, and a sharp businessman. He gave me my first full-time job in Wilmington at Blake Printing. He and Cathey, along with dear friend Cindy Meyers, provided me with the skills and network to pursue an early career in the printing industry. I am forever indebted to them and have fond memories of our time together. Rest in peace, Don. Hugs to you, dear Cathey, and Linda and Otto too.

Cathey . . . so sorry to hear of Don's passing . . . Chris had told me just before Christmas that they had been to hospice to visit his uncle . . . but I never put two and two together. Remember so many good times with you and Don fist at Bee Line and then at Goudarzis' parties . . . he will be sorely missed! Donna & Rich Schmetterer

Cathey, Children and Family,
We are sorry to hear of Don's passing. We just found out as we were out of town until yesterday. He was a kind, happy man who loved his family dearly. That was very evident at reunions. Prayers are with you all. Vicki, Henry and family

I got to know Don while working with him in his Printing Business for many years.I became very good friends with he and Kathy. I was welcome in their home when I was in town.I got to know and become friends with lot of people who worked for him.As I look back I feel Don cared a lot more about helping people and seeing them happy then he ever did about business and to me that makes him a very special person that I will never forget.I did not get to see Don in the last few years but I often though of him. My love and prayers to my good friend Kathy and Family.

I am very sad to hear that Mr. Donald Blake has passed away. He was so kind and charming to me and my sons when we started learning about coin collecting. His sense of humor was wonderful and I enjoyed just sitting and talking to him about my collection of "squished pennies" or "elongated coins" as they are referred to in the numismatic world. I know that this was not one of his more important accomplishments in life, but for my family it meant the world! It has been a few years since I saw Donald, but I know that he would have been happy to know that my 17 year old son, Lee, has recently completed his Eagle project, because Mr. Donald was always happy to hear good family news! My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I remember meeting Cathy at Sears many, many years ago. Later I became friends with Linda Blake and learned that Cathy was married to her Dad. when I met Don I thought he was a Southern Gentleman. I have know them most of my adult life and it saddens me to hear he has passed. I will be praying for Cathy and their families. I know this is a very difficult time in your life. However if you lean on God for strength and peace He will be faithful to give you the peace that only He can give. Don passed on my sons birthday so I know I will always remember him while celebrating my sons special day and Dons going to Heaven! What a glorious day when we all get to go to Heaven and see our loved ones again!

Cathey and family, Such sad news to learn of Don's passing. He was a fine Southern gentleman who devoted his life to his family, country and community. It was my great good fortune to get to know and work with him through many UNCW activities, including our 50th anniversary. My deepest sympathies.

I have had the pleasure of speaking with this fine gentleman only four times and in those times I found him to be an exceptional conversationalist.
It is my loss that I only had the pleasure of his company so few times. He was a GREAT man........ And a pleasure to speak with. There was so much to be learned from this man and it was my loss not to have had the opportunity to meet with him more in life. May God take and rest his soul...

May you rest in peace, may your family find comfort. I was fortunate to have known you well; you taught me much and I will always have fond memories of Blake Printing's era. A big part of the quality of life I have today can be directly attributed to the influence of both Don and Cathey Blake.

May you rest in peace sweet Uncle. We have certainly been blessed to have you for 89 years. From my earliest childhood memories, I always remember the attention you gave me as a child and the excitement and anticipation of your visits from Indianapolis with your family, as well as your replies to my silly letters that I would write you while you were away. You were never too busy for me. I have so many sweet memories that I will cherish in my heart forever from times at the big house, to growing up and getting married, to having children in which you were never too busy to share your love with my children and grandchildren as though they were your own. I will forever be your special “Ding-a-ling” as you so often called me and miss you terribly, but look forward to seeing you again one day. I love you!
