Doris Scott Obituary

DORIS WEEKS SCOTT Townville, SC. Doris Weeks Scott died peacefully on November 2, 2014, surrounded by her family in Townville, SC. Doris was 97 years old. Born on August 18, 1917 in New London, CT., she was the daughter of Augustus Stinard Weeks and Catherine Jane Curren. She was married to Alexander MacConnell Scott, Jr. on April 28, 1938 in New Rochelle, NY. During their 52 year marriage they raised their family in Mamaroneck, NY, and later in life they lived in Brazil, Spain, Columbia, South America, Texas, and Florida and were one of the original residents of Keowee Key in Salem, SC. Doris spent the last years of her life in Wilmington, NC. Doris grew up as a "Dancer". Her career included performing in New York City as a member of the Ned Wayburn Dancers, teaching dance, and as a choreographer for numerous shows and dance groups. Another one of her passions was interior design and she completed her course work at Tri-County Tech in Pendleton, SC. She formed and mentored the "Class Act" and the "Swinging Tappers" dance groups in Wilmington, NC. The "Swinging Tappers" won the Gold Medal in Dance at the North Carolina Silver Arts competition. She last performed at 93 years old. Her life centered on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and her dancing. She was an incredible lady with a great sense of humor and dedication to her family. She especially looked forward to her annual 4th of July family reunions. She loved to travel and play the piano. Her philosophy was that "Life is a journey to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but not with the intention of arriving safely, with a well preserved body, but rather to slide in totally worn out while proclaiming, 'Wow, what a ride!'" Doris is survived by her three children, Alexander MacConnell Scott, III and wife Sharon of Townville SC, Diane Scott Caster and husband William of Townville SC, and William Weeks Scott and wife Lynda of Kure Beach, NC, and 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Alexander MacConnell Scott, Jr., her sister Jane Weeks Renz, and her brother Douglas Henry Weeks. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Wilmington, NC, St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca, SC, and volunteered with Lower Cape Fear Hospice and the Senior Center in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oconee Hospice of the Foothills at 390 Keowee School Rd. Seneca, SC. 29672, or Lower Cape Fear Hospice at 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401. We want to thank the nurses and staff of Oconee Hospice of the Foothills and a very special thanks to LaCosta and Zoey Rothell for their love, caring and kindness. They were Doris's very special friends in her last days. The family will honor Doris with a Celebration of her Life at a later time in Atlanta.

Mrs. Scott was a gracious, lovely lady who gave ballet and tap lessons to all the little girls on Rockland Avenue. I'll never forget her! Sympathy and regards to her family.

She was the prettiest mother in Mamaroneck and a gentlewoman when I met her again in Wilmington. Peace and love Diane Caster and to the rest of her family.
