Edith Brown Gattis, age 87, passed peacefully from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Pender Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 15, 1924, in Duplin County, the daughter of the late Tracy and Mora Carr Brown. Also remembered are her husband of 28 years, William E. Gattis; brother, Eldon Brown and sister, Helen Johnson all who preceded Edith in death.

Edith was a faithful member of Burgaw United Methodist Church where for many years she was very active in the Molly Bryan Sunday School Class and was always supportive in all church activities. She was a retired elementary school teacher, teaching for many years in Burgaw.

Edith was a truly gracious Southern lady who loved her family, her church and her community; giving unceasingly of her time and talents. As long as her health permitted Edith volunteered with Pender Adult Services Meals On Wheels. Sewing and quilting were among Edith's many talents that she enjoyed. She counted her family as her richest blessing and focused her energies on caring for her family and mastering the art of homemaking. Cherished memories of Edith will forever remain in our hearts.

Cathy and Kenneth:

My prayers are with you in the loss of your Mom. Moms are so good, the good Lord only gives us one.

Your Mom was certainly one of the best of our generation of Mothers.

I pray that you be blessed with peace and understanding in the passing of your Mother.

Aunt Edith and her sister; Helen, my Mother... were the two sweetest women I ever knew. I'm sure Mama was there to greet her and I know they are truly happy.

Cathy, I have just heard about your Mother. She was such a true southern lady. I would see her sometimes at the Beauty Shop when I would take my Mom & she was always asking how I was doing. I know she will be greatly missed. You & all your family are in my prayers.
