Marie, Debbie, Gary, Della, Beth...thoughts and prayers to your family during this time. Garland was such a special man. Hunter, my dad , shared a special bond with Garland, one that I was privileged to see and share in. I really appreciated the time spent with them. Our love for him and all of you continues and the legacy of his life is far reaching. A truly unique and kind man who will be missed by family, friends, and all those who knew him.

Marie, Debbie, Gary, Della, Beth, and your families,
Just as I have benefited from knowing all of you and from working with and learning from Garland since 1966 at N. C. State, I now share in your loss. I remember, and often have reflected upon especially, his counselor's mantra on the masking tape on the back edge of his desk Empathize, don't Sympathize as a source of helpful objectivity when working with students. I many times also have chuckled when I saw or thought of his perspective on administration so aptly stated by The Train needlepoint on his wall. May God bless and comfort you as you redefine normal going forward from here.

Marie and Family,
We were so very sorry to learn about Garland. Not only was he my boss and mentor when I worked with him in the Graphic Communications Program at N.C. State; he was also a kind, sincere, and true friend. Although it has been many years since we have seen each other, I will always consider Garland to be a true friend!
Your family is in our thoughts,
Bill and Linda Ross

Dear Mrs. Hilliard, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Garland. My father, Ben Webb, who taught at NCSU with him, thought so highly of him. As did my Mom, Eleanor Webb. My brother and sister and I have fond memories of Mr. Hilliard at State playing in the hallways, etc. Visiting your house, and you guys printed my wedding invitations! Dad passed away 8 years ago and we have lost Mom too. We send our deepest prayers for you and your family at this difficult time as we know what it is like to loose a part of your family. God Bless, Sincerely, Karen Webb Gwyn

I had the wonderful honor of caring for Garland during the last few months of his life. I truly enjoyed going to work and spending time with him, loved hearing his stories and seeing the pride he showed when talking about his family. We developed an unexpected friendship and he was kind enough to give me one of his hand carved wood cross necklaces. I am still truly touched by this gesture and Garland will forever be in my memory. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hilliard family during this time of grief. May the love of this kind man bring you peace as you honor his life and legacy.
