Gerald Arthur Obituary

GERALD BLAKE ARTHUR Gerald Blake Arthur, 85 of Wilmington, NC died peacefully at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Gerald was born in Maysville, NC on August 21, 1935 to the late Rodney Whitfield Arthur and the late Annabelle Reese Arthur Long. Also remembered are his wife Annie Lee Frederick Arthur and his two sisters, Lavoy Picone and Mary Helen George who preceded him in death. He is survived by his only son Gerald (Jerry) Blake Arthur II and wife Wendy of Wilmington; granddaughter, Katelyn Lee Arthur of Raleigh, NC; brothers Rodney ("Bubba") Whitfield Arthur, Jr. of Lebanon, TN, Virgil Koonce Arthur of Wilmington, William ("Billy") Eugene Arthur of Wilmington and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerald attended New Hanover High School and served in the US Air Force for six years. He held various job but is best known for being the owner of Arthur's Tire & Auto Service for over 35 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Wilmington Shrine Club. The love of Gerald's life was his wife Annie Lee. He adored her and she was his guiding light. Life for Gerald was never quite the same without her. We are rejoicing knowing they are united in heaven. Gerald's greatest joy in life was his precious only son, Jerry. His love and adoration for him was clear to all who knew him. His face would light up any time Jerry was near. Gerald was so proud of him. This joy was only rivaled by the other love of his life his granddaughter, Katie. He thought that she hung the moon and the stars. He bragged about her to anyone who would listen. Gerald loved his family. Nothing made him happier than being with them. He especially enjoyed going to Jerry's softball games and cheering for his team. These games were the highlight of his week. Gerald will be remembered for his loving devotion to his family. A private memorial will be held due to COVID restrictions. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Sepich and staff, Dr. Hobart and Missy, LPN and Lower Cape Fear LifeCare - especially Olga, RN, Chanique, CNA and Gillian, CSW. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Gerald, the family requests memorial donations to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or a charity of one's choice. Jerry, Wendi, Katie,Larry and I express our deepest sympathy. Uncle Gearld will truly be missed. My fondest memories of Uncle Gearld is when Grandma and I went shopping downtown and I always wanted to stop and see Uncle Gearld and get a big hug. That is when he worked for an insurance company. He always called me “Sugar” . Saying special prayers for for the family.

I know we never spent a lot of time together, but it was always great to see you when we came to visit. When I was a kid, I always bragged that there was a tire shop with the family name it in Wilmington to people back here in Tennessee. Love you uncle Gerald. You will be missed.

Man I don’t know what to say or where to begin. This family has been my family. Mr and Mrs Arthur treated me like a second son. I am so grateful to them opening up their home to me and making feel like family. It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to Mr Arthur. I can hardly bring myself to call him Gerald.

If ever a man loved a son it was Gerald Arthur who loved Jerry Boy. Their home was so peaceful and I loved spending so much time there. I would watch Mr Arthur be affectionate with Jerry as teenager and as a grown man. Hugging and kissing him and I would say to myself when I have a daughter or son I don’t care how old they get I will do just the same with them. So Mr Arthur here’s to you. Thank you Sir for showing me how to love a son. You have forever marked my life and modeled how a father should treat a child. I love you Mr Arthur. You will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Despite how difficult this time has been, the way you cared for Pa is really the only thing I can think of that measures up to the way he loved Uncle Jerry. I certainly will never forget your patience and selflessness, and I'm sure he and Annie won't either. My heart and prayers go out to you all. I love you, and just know that I'm here for you whenever you need to feel your feelings.

We have so many grand memories together, the ones that stick out the most were our summers at my Papa and Grandma’s house on Wood Duck Circle. As well as my Papa and Grandma, Aunt Helen, and Grannie. You all will be in our thoughts, he will surely be missed.

My heart and prayers go out to Jerry, Wendy and Kate in their loss of father, father-in-law, and “Pa.”. I remember Gerald at Kate’s soccer games, at her birthday gatherings, and any time I was at one of Jerry’s games. He loved his son. He was always ready to help with my girls cars when needing repair. He and Annie Lee were an amazing couple. Jerry and Wendy will have no regrets regarding the care they have so willingly given Gerald for more than two years. He couldn’t have been in better hands. He will surely be missed.

Mr. Arthur was the best assistant softball coach I ever had. It always frustrated him when players would not use 2 hands when catching a fly ball. I had some awesome times with him in the dugout during games. He always kept me laughing but he was very serious with his observations. I miss him and those times we shared together.
